will valve adjustment affect performance?
actually it does affect performance in a big way. Throttle response and gas milage are improved. At any RPM your power (exhaust and compression) will be leaking out of your valves.
Before I adjusted the lash, it would take me 18 gallons to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Now it takes me 14.5-15. And these results were consistant before and after.
If u can understand how an engine works, its easy to picture how valves out of spec would diminish performance.

the only way combustion gases will scape the chamber is ifthe valves are adjusted too tight...wich does not happen unless you *** up adjusting them
Changing valve clearances is like changing the ramp/lift of a cam. Its just that its very minor to notice unless an extreme case.

not only that, but think about the blow by from valve leakage due to not sealing..When I adjusted a friends valves, he stopped burning some oil too.
his intake valves would suck oil in and his exhaust valves would blow oil out...
not that I did that he said the car has a better sound under the hood and out the exhaust..Minor things like being .002 out of spec can also cause some wear on the rocker arms, and cost you in the long run...

im sorry to be blunt, no offense; but that statement makes no sense at all.
And once again, when you adjust and adjustment is needed 100% of the time valves are loose. loose valves will not cause the valve not to seal...
If the valves are adjusted OVERLY tight; then the cam constantly pushes on the valves thus keeping them from sealing. But if it gets to that you have other problems to worry about...like worn rockers and worn/broken cams..

doing a valve adjustment will make your valves more quiet without the ticking, better performance and also better gas milage.
