master cylinder leaking?
I had this problem before on an older integra that had about 70K miles before the clutch would start to go to the ground. I have a 2001 integra now with about 45K miles and today I just thought I would check out under the clutch. The clutch grabs fine and feels ok too but when I looked underneath where the cylinder is, if I touch it, i get the fluid on my hands. Is this normal? I never paid any attention to this before. I am assumming it has to be lubricated but I did notice some dryed marks where it looked like it was dripping before. Any input?
i have never heard of lubricating it but it is probably just a little leak but over time it will eventually get worse and you will have to replace it. if money is tight you could wait to replace it but you may find yourself stuck somewhere with a clutch pedal on the floor. my advice would be tosave yourself the hassle and replace it now.
ok so i just took it out for a drive, what it appears to be is the line going into the car, the cylinder when the clutch is being pressed, the metal has the fluid on it, its not leaking around the cylinder or dripping its just wet when i go to touch the metal part.....maybe this makes sense..maybe it doesnt lol checked the fluid levels it all seems normal also
the only 2 lines that go into the cylinder are on the outside of the car. there is one hard line and one rubber line. the part that leaks inside the car is the plunger that is connected to the clutch. im not clear on what part you are saying is leaking. if it is inside the car it has to be the plunger which means that the seals are going.
well it turns out that the master is going, I found a website

with new ones, any idea as to which one i should get and how easy is it to install? can anybody run me through it? thanks

i had the same problem...to find out if it's just normal liquid or the cylinder itself leaking....go under to where ur clutch pedal meets the firewall pull off the rubber boot there....should be 100% dry in there besides a little librication on the bar itself....if thats wet ... then it's the cylinder thats leaking....30 minute replacement cheap part too....either way if ur questioning whether or not it's bad...just replace it so u dont have to think about that piece later
