Default CRX passenger side axle popping out of transmission

I have a 90 crx with a 91 Si motor and a 88 Si trans. Ive had this motor and trans in 2 different cars and ive had the same problem. The axle keeps popping out of the trans. I thought it was because i had the car lowered 2.50 in, so i took off the suspension and put the stock back on. I also have all prothane bushings up front. It still does it, weather or not i have 14' or 17's on it still pops out at random. I had it on the car lift the other day and there was fluid or oil all over the bottom of the trans and the car, non on the axles tho. Do i need a new trans or a new axle? Can any one help please? This has been going on for over 2 years now.

Thanks for any input.

Sounds to me, like your axle may be too short. They were probably changed along the life of the car, and they never ended up putting the correct one. Same happened to me on my drivers one. Everytime I took a U-turn it would pop off.

Thanks for the info. I bought the axle at advance auto parts so I think at the time i bought it might have been the wrong axle. Should I try changing the axle. I have the stock dx axle I could try. Or should i try changing the trans if it still happens. The current trans has like 200,000 + miles on it.

Sounds like I should try the dx one i have out. I should also measure both axles and see if one's bigger then the other.

have you replaced the retention clip that goes on the end of the driveshaft with a new one or did you re-use the old one? The only reason I ask is because I did that once & it kept poppin on me, then I used a replacement clip from Autozone, same prob. Finally I went to Honda & bought theirs & its Aok now. The clip was thicker & stronger from Honda IMO.

I used the same clips. I think I might just have to buy the retention clip. Do you know the cost for one from Honda?

They are $3.50 from honda I think, and they usualy have to order them. Without those clips they'll never stay in.
