Default Making the H23 VTEC

After talking to friends i got the impression that there was 2 ways to pull this off. either by slapping the h22 head on the h23 or using the h22 block but putting the crank and rods from the h23 in the h22. what do you guys think would be easier and what would i be better off attempting? Also i was wondering if anyone knows exactly what i would need to take from the h23 and put into the h22?

I have the H23A block with the H22A head.... I had to use the H22A timing belt, balance shaft belts, water pump, lower timing gear, and converted the tensioner to the H23A one, I also used the H22A waterpipe behind the block the thermostat and housing from an H22A I did not use the oil squirters from the H22A .. you can make them work with some bending but I opted not to use them. My block is fully built, the H23 crank was fully micropolished and balanced, the block is sleeved I have 9:1 JE pistons with Eagle rods.. i also replaced the oil pump gear with the ProDrive one. If you have any other questions please let me know. Many will say that the H23AVTEC is not reliable the crank is weak blah blah blah.. I have had this combo for over two years one year with a DRAG turbo kit attached with no problems... Good Luck

I was talking to my buddy and he said that instead of puting the h22 head on the h23 you can keep the h22 block but put the cranks and rods into the h22. do you know anything about doing that?

You can do that but the oil squirters under the pistons will be damaged you have to make them bend out of the way of the pistons on the downstroke... if not you will be left with the ends of the squirters in the bottom of your oil pan.. I know I made that newbie mistake on the first rebuild...

put the head on the h23 block and dont use oil squirters....the bearings need more oiling and the squirters are to cool the pistons at high speeds which you shouldnt be doing in the h23/vtec...keep the rev under 7200 and you should be fine
