drilled out starter hole...safe to use 1 bolt? Extreme frustration with my 5 speed swap..
Well, I've got an automatic sedan that I just converted to 5 speed.
I bought an Si transmission from a local guy here on H-T. I trusted him, as I've bought a few parts from him and didn't inspect the transmission thoroughly before I paid.
Turns out the front mount threaded holes are broken off. Just nothing there at all.
So I said screw it, and grabbed my friends DX transmission.
Put that bad boy in...and go to put the rear mount on. Two of the holes on the transmission case for the rear mount are drilled out. I'm going to *try* to JB weld them and then tap them. We'll see about that...
The thing that's more annoying, IMO, is that turns out one of the starter bolt holes is also drilled out. Not stripped, drilled out larger.
The other hole is good.
Now I've used 1 bolt before on the starter out of necessity, going to try it again.
What do you think? Last time around loctite held the starter in pretty good.
I was going to try to helicoil it, but I think the hole is already drilled out too large to use a kit.

i did it on my first swap and it didnt last that long... although i never did use loctite. up to you man. it will work. but for how long is the question?
I know it sounds absurd but we lost a bolt on the starter at Road Atlanta on my buddies 93 hatch and we had one bolt and then zip tied. He forgot about the zip ties until months later but they held like champs.
