Default 91 DX w/ jdm swap performance..need advice

I have a 91 DX with a JDM d16a...supposidly making 130hp. Its paired with an SI trans. Car has new plugs, wires, dizz and intake. This thing is slow. My freind has a 90 DX with i/h/e and mpfi swap and hes pretty much just as fast as i am. Im planning on doing h/e...but the way the motor is now shouldnt it be a pretty fast car? AC is taken out...can a restrictive ex. mani and restrictive ex. system really affect a motor that badly? I mean 130 is the stock hp rating so...it doesnt even feel like it pulls when vtec kicks in..i am confused

The dohc zc has 130hp

If you have a d16a you most likely have a sohc jdm motor which has around 112-118 hp if I am not mistaken

If you are running a vtec engine how are you activating vtec?? Are you using a switch, vafc, or the proper ecu??

yea its sohc vtec...OBD1. i was told a sohc d16a vtec motor makes like 130...but we shift pretty much the same..he has a short throw but then again i have an si trans...which is said to be considerably quicker than the dx trans. i have the stock steelies on there..it just feels like the cars pulling so much weight or something..like the motor is being restricted really bad..worse than a stock ex mani and exhaust could do it seems. im not fat either.. ECU is a socketed P28

we have seen a couple of different D16As here in the shop - one had valve train just like a D16Z6 and the other had valve train like a D15Z1 VX engine and like a JDM D15B VTEC-E engine - these operate as a 12 valve engine until VTEC actuates the other intake valves - if you search the internet, you can find the D16A listed at 130ps or at 120ps for the VTEC-E - my guess is you have the 120ps VTEC-E engine
