Default h22a4 swap

I have a buddy who's selling his h22a4 off his 97 Prelude SH. Comes with everything needed to get the thing running. My only concern is, will this be a difficult swap into my 92 Prelude Si? I know that the SH models are different from the Base models, so will I have any trouble swapping this in? Or should I wait and by a 93-96 h22a motor? What should I be more concern about if I do decide to do this swap. The h22a4 is pretty cheap...$1400 complete with tranny..60k miles...i don't want to let it pass. Any feedbacks would be great.

its funny you ask this cause I have a 92 si with an H22A4... I bought that car swapped already, but it only looks like he ran some wires for the vtec solenoid and pressure switch. He also stated that he chipped the original ECU to keep it OBD1.. I have codes for vtec solenoid and psi switch, and also an O2 code so I dont know if it was the swap or the parts are bad.... still have to look into it. it is definately do-able. I haven't driven an older H22 so I don't know the performance differences to reccomend the other. But I would say jump in it!

Is your engine from a Base model or the SH model? I've asked around and heard that the SH tranny is as good as the other models....is that true?

hmm interesting, i know the sh tranny is totally different, you will be able to use the h22 no problem (with some wiring and other stuff) but as far as the tranny, i thought they were totally different, you might have to use a different exhaust manifold since the base model and sh have different stuff

some one correct me if im wrong.. but i beleive you will neeed to switch out the injectors for peak and hold (obd1) will need a obd1 p13 or chipped p28 or = of choice.. i do NOT think the SH tranny will work as its equipped with ATTS...

So I would probably have to find a different tranny to use instead of the SH tranny? Which would you guys recommend? What else would I need before I can swap this into my 92 lude? I've searched the forum, got some tips but not enough. Anything will help. Also, I want to tune and upgrade the engine before putting it into my car. All belts and the usual tune up will be done. I'm looking to upgrade the internals as well...what should i leave stock and what should i change? I might boost in the future so i want something that'll handle boost. thanks.

Use the injectors that came with the A4, if you use obd1 peak and hold you will have to hook up a resistor box and get new injectors, which you dont need. SH tranny is a no go like bb4 stated.

ok here...

H22a4 HAS 2 Versions!!!!!!!!!

the Base model and the SH model, BOTH WILL SWAP DIRECTLY IN FOR YOU... diffrence is the location of the oil filter due to the ATTS, but swapping the engines only will have no effect, just chip you ecu or get a H22 ecu and your set.!

What's wrong with the ATTS? What is this and how bad is it? The engine comes complete with the ecu. I believe its the p13...that's what he said. What about the axles? Can I just use my original ones from my h23? I don't have much funds right now to buy a new tranny, so I would like to use the sh tranny. I just don't know what the atts is and why people don't like it.

people dont like atts becase after 250 whp the clutches begin to slip, so its not good if you plan on make much HP ie: FI.

if hes giving you the tranny and all atts i believe it will fit, but dont quote me... your better off keeping you tranny and just swapping the H22a4 block to your car, easy simple no problems...

ok if you are getting all this for 1400 i believe you said...just get the JDM H22 motor swap package. it comes with everything you need to do the conversion. Im doing it with mine. taking the USDM H23 out and putting the JDM H22 in. THen im building up the H23 into a NA with a vtec conversion. if you want to know where im getting my package at lemme know and ill give ya the site.

did you get yours as a complete swap as well? Engine, tranny, ecu...??? Yeah, give me the site and I can check it out. How much was yours including shipping? the only reason why i wanted to buy it was because it was a great price for a complete swap, and it was local so i don't have to worry about shipping or SCAMMING...

I negotiated the price down to $1100 now. Should I get this motor? i've read the faq's and recent threads, but still can't make up my mind. It seems like the only problem is that the motor is off the SH model. Well..along with that is the changeover from the obd2 to the obd1...Any opinions...I'm just a little discourage from reading the faq's about the SH tranny and block...
