Default WTF, LACR CLOSING DOWN LOST THE LEASE.!! STREET RACING HERE WE COME

Heard rumors that LACR is closing down. They lost the lease. We have major problems with street racing in LA and now they are closing down another track. Were we suppose to race now. So Cal Street racing's gonna come back. Sylmar, Glen oaks, Saticoy, Compton, Ontario, its gonna be happening next year.

I'm sorry for you guys out in cali. You guys get access to all the good **** for cars out there but nowhere to race. Here in Oklahoma we have no emissions and we have places to race but getting parts for imports is a serious headache. Bring the scene out here and all will be good.

I thought Bernie was trying to build a track close to the airport. There was a thread about this a while back.

Sounds like another one is going to bite the dust...Now what are we to do? I guess they really want street racing to become big.

wow, when is this suppose to take place? fontana does need to change their rules. Why does it matter if a car is non street legal? as long as it is by the nhra books, then i think we should all race. RIP LACR where i first saw a race, an import race, a 1/4 mile race

I heard that same rumor earlier this year and that's too bad.

Actually it doesn't take very long to build a track. What's taken Drag City so long is the city dragging its feet, but also because the owners underestimate the cost updating the area to handle the use/traffic, etc.

That does leave Fomoso as the only track if that does happen, unless Fontana increases their dates for Street Legal and make the track safer for really fast cars. They already host Divisional events there for the NHRA so I don't see why not.

We need at least 3 working, well run, brand new 1/4 strips....

One in San Diego County (how come Barona is only 1/8th is beyond me)

One in LA County (high desert seems the only logical choice)

* Filmore is closer to sea level is that's worth anything...

One in Riverside/San Bernandino. I'd jump on the owners of Drag City to get it done faster.

Palmdale will be open for at least 2 more years so take advantage of it while you can.

Okay, let's get some fact's staight. Like Earl say's, LACR is good for at least 2 more years, maybe longer.
Barona is 1/8th mile because the department of land management (BLM) own the land past the shutdown area and will not allow expansion. However, 1/8 mile racing is great and Barona is a well run track.
Fontana is a really great track, and they will be building a new track in the winter that will be even better. Meanwhile, go racing there as much as you can.
The track is safe for cars running 5 second et's. That says it all! It handles 6 second cars on a regular basis. The track is not an issue.
I recomend that racers with sport compact cars look into other events besides street legal. The street legal nites are crowded, and you dont get that many runs. Go to a PSCA event and enter brackets, get 4 or 5 times as many runs for just a little bit more entry fees. Or enter the Summit Team ET races. They have street tire classes. You will see more runs on the track, a better prep'd track, and well run events.
If you are sorry to see a great track like lacr close down, then learn a valuable lesson. SUPPORT the tracks that are open. Go racing at Fontana, Irwindale, Barona, Bakersfield, and let the tracks see your support by racing at the tracks.

can't forget Qualcom 1/8mile as well. They probably have more open dates than most other tracks. Recently I've noticed that when talking to a newb racer(under 25yo)they want to know what my car runs. Typically i say low13s...but i see it in their face that they meant in the 1/8th...since thats all thats around in s.d...at least. 1/8th mile racing is getting more popular here beacuse it's promoted by the local news/newspaper and flyers at different shops. And it's location in mission valley doesnt hurt.
But enough about that....

drag racing is like skating was. you had to skate on the streets at risk of getting a ticket or arrested. skate parts are springing up everywhere and i mean everywhere. our small town has 2 and every town in the bay area just about has at least one. it will happen with drag racing . when the street racing get out of hand and people start stepping up to voice their opinions, tracks will start getting built.

so true man... thats what got me in to racing these cars, i was already use to running from the cops on a skateboard. Running from the cops in a car at the streetraces was even better
It sucks there closing down all our tracks, i lived 10 minutes from the old Carlsbad raceway and when it closed i was depressed. But what i did was build a car for a class and just go to events...i dont get to race as much but at least its something.

I agree with this to a certain extent...but skateboard parks are easy to build...just take some space from a park and throw some concrete down...no noise pollution which equals cranky neighbors...tracks have to be built in industrial areas or the boonies...a lot more development also has to go into them...I hope to see more tracks pop up...

one easy solution. open up termial island again
i mean we hear rumors every year that its going to open up again...but it never does!

either way...please no street racing...

maybe just maybe...someone can get one of those house makeover reality shows and get them to build a track...haha

Unless someone has some hardcore answers dont jump the gun sayin LACR is gone. I heard this when I was 20 almost 5 years ago. LACR is where I have raced since I was 17 so itll be sad day when its gone but I cant imagine not having a track in the high desert LACr makes money so if its is planeed to close in the next couple years Im sure there will be plans to begin prep/construction on another one. There is enough land in Palmdale that is wasteland I dont see why it will be a problem

I don't know if this a credible source so take what you want and leave what you don't.
It's about the Moto X track which is next to the 1/4.
http://www.lacrmx.com/download/Rumors-Letter.pdf

I could not find anything on the http://www.lacr.net site. I would think if there was going to be something major going on that they would at least notify its patrons. (shrug)

<- Looking forward to Mopars Drag City http://www.drag-city.com

At this point in my life I'm sure glad I no longer live in CA. I'll be back someday but, only when I'm old enough not to be tempted to got out to the illegals anymore . Hope they come up with a LEGAL solution for you guys.
