Default rev limiter on new accords

i have a 2006 honda accord ex v6 sedan (auto) and today when i revved the engine up for the first time, i was sadly disappointed that the rev limiter stopped the tachometer needle only at 5500 rpms even when the car redlines at 6800 rpms. does anybody know anything about the 06 v6 engine? i've owned and driven previous accords and there was no rev limiter at those low rpm's. i'm not stupid enough to rev it past redline, but i'm thinking it may be a safety feature to prevent people from killing the engine in first gear.

Did the car even reach normal driving temperatures?

no, the car was in park (i can't rev it in drive on an automatic). the outside temp. was 61 degrees and the engine was a little cold but i don't see why it would limit the rev. i was revving it a little to warm up the engine. before i drove, i decided to see how the v6 sounded at near redline, but it was sadly stopped at 5500 rpm. i know the engine can get more than that because the auto shifts at 6200 rpms when pushed to its limits.

The computer limits it, most newer cars do that. Guess it's some sort of saftey feature, mind if I ask why you are revving your car in park?

I'm willing to bet that if you take off from a stop and leave it on the floor it will go all the way to about 6600 rpm. before shifting. Probably just a safety feature if it's not in gear. It would be too easy to over-rev it in park or neutral.

when it drive u can redline it, its auto so u wont be able to push it past redline. in park it is supposed to stop at 5500 rpms, most newer auto's do this, such as 03 toyota corollas. basically to sum it up. u r correct, it is a safety feature.

i have went past the red line sometimes to 6.3 then the fuel will cut off then hear air. To get a auto to hit red line, sometimes flooring it wont help. Just press the gas half way then when you past 3.5 then it starts to pull. Press the gas down slowly but faster to the ground. That way it will hit red line and hit it hard, but the trick is before it hits red line. Let off the gas a tad bit, the tranny will up shift for you without no delay. Then press the gas again like that trew every gear.

I dont know about the new autos, but the 6g's not so great i only do that if i need too.

like i said earlier, i reved the engine to see what it sounds like at high rpms because i'm curious, not because i wanted to be cool. all i wanted was a simple answer to my question (like yes, it's a safety feature) and not smart *** responses. at 1000 miles, attempting to rev it near redline won't kill the engine, and i'm pretty sure everyone on this forum is always curious to see how a new engine sounds.

I wouldn't really cal it a safety feature. It's more of a dumbass deterrent.
