1996 door lock actuator..(researched) questions.
i know a common problem w/5th gens are the door lock actuators acting up. well, mines done it from the day i bought it (used of course). always clicked. well, now it grinds..nasty sound.
so, i checked out the actuator of a donor car but coudlnt get it out. i took out the 3 screws that hold in the whole latch assembly. i it comes loose but ther are 2 rods that i cant get off.
anybody know how to take it out? i researched this, but the thread i found wasnt very helpful. it actually seemed like the guy didnt need to take the rods out..but it was unclear.
in the meantime, im just gonna disconnect the locks from the lil switch on the door panel and just do away w/the auto locks.

hey, it almost left me stranded because it was doin this..went to the store, locked my car and i guess it never stopped clicking. drained my batt. i had to turn off the cd player (have an amp also), the fan..and then it would start.
and while i was on my honeymoon it did the same thing to me..except it completely killed my batt
very bay-ed

nope. doesnt work. all it does is not allow you to lock the doors w/the switch. when the doors are locked, and you stick the key in to unlock it...nasty grinding sound.
so, it goes back to the rods that go into the actuator..when the lock is turned, it shoves the rod into the actuator which activates it (obviously).

one can remove actuator without loosening the outer door handle which is the upper connection for the 2 rods(lock and popup ****) that you mention.
however , because the lever in back of the new actuator can not be properly inserted due to lack of room, i had to loosen and push out the door handle to gain access to rotate the new actuator to properly insert the lever in back.
it is not a quick job.
