Turbo GSR, is it worth it?
Looking into buying this car and just wanted some outside opinions. It is a VERY clean 1 owner white 2000 GSR with 64k and a Drag 3 turbo kit running 8lbs.
CP low comp pistons
stock rods
440's
3" exhaust all the way back
comptech bars all around
eibach/KYB AGX suspension
black Rota GT3's
new tranny with exedy clutch 20k ago (long story)
OEM kit
VAFC
and a bunch of other things I can't think of right now.
I know this car and it has been babied it's whole life, the owner just had it in my shop and everything seems to be fine.
Is this car worth 13k-14k?

agreed bu it stock, and also if his fuel management is a vafc defent do not buy that car that thing will blow on u in on time, a turbo car should not be tuned with a vafc, it needs some sort of standalone or chipped ecu.

i agree, its better to get a stock car because you'll know everything about it from start to finish... if you buy a highly modified car then you never know what the previous owner has done with it..
just my opinion

just about a year ago i bought a 1998 GSR with 16k ORIGINAL miles (with carfax report/ records of service) and a greddy turbo kit, OEM body kit, Mugen seat, mugen exhaust, suspesion, and lots of other stuff..spoon, j's racing, blitz. etc...
and paid $12,500
-----a year later (now) i have it on hondata and shes making about 250whp and gobs of torque
no issues (knock on wood)

I was recently in the same situation, looking at a turbo'd car... what I did was started to kind of get to know the seller a little bit, having conversations with the guy helped me to know what type of person he was and how he drove the car, come to find out he was not very knowledgeable about the car, and it seemed like, he raced it whenever the chance came.. I ended up walking away from that deal... don't know if that helps, but I would strongly advise to do your research before buying a heavily modified car like that...
if you gonna spend that kind of cash might as buy mine it's ALL MOTOR!! NA's BEST

If it's what you want, get the motor checked out, compression and leakdown, see how the tranny is and go for it. Getting stock is best, but you'll cry when you look at the receipts when you're at the same point as that car is as opposed to buying stock and paying for the parts. If you do buy it, get engine management asap.

I disagree with this. It's always MUCH CHEAPER to purchase a car already modded (if it is running decently) than to buy it stock and then modify it.
Let's say for example, he buys a stock GSR for 10K... He's not going to get all those mods and labor for only 3K. Even if the car has a few minor problems, it's worth it. Now if there are major engine problems or tranny problems, then he should check into a better deal obviously unless he's gonna get a HUGE discount.
I think the really important thing to do before getting a turbo Honda is to do research and learn about it and actually be able to do some of the work yourself because you can never really trust someone else to do decent work even if you give large sums of money. It's really hit and miss in the "modifying car world".
BTW I speak from experience...
