Default Jdm B18c and ecu?

if i use a usdm b18c1 ecu on a jdm b18c engine i would only get the power of the usdm b18c1 correct? Also are jdm engines OBDI or OBDII?
thanks in advance.

Holy **** your signature is sweet!

Okay, anyways, your questions...

While the JDM SiR-G (our version is the GS-R) motor is *rated* at 180hp, no dyno results I've seen here conclude that the JDM motor makes more power than the USDM one.

The USDM ECU will be fine. I can't think of any real difference between the 2 ECUs that would make 2whp difference really. Use the USDM ECU and you'll be fine.

As for JDM motors and OBDI or OBDII...

They can be either just like our USDM stuff. The cutoff for us is 1996, but I *think* theirs was 1997 for some strange reason. I had a JDM 1996 Type R ECU that was OBDII plug, but OBDI program! Weird I know, but I'm sure it was an OBDI program because it only looked for one 02 sensor and no crank fluctuation sensor.

So to answer the question, they can be either.

Need help in identifying the ECU plugs? Here you go, hang on...

Good luck - keep us posted.

Identifying the ECUs?

From top to bottom:

OBDII (1999-2000)
OBDII (1996-1998)
OBDI (1992-1995)
Pre-OBD (1988-1991 Usually used mostly from 1st-gen B16A swaps, etc.)

Hope that helps!

yeah what you said is just what i think

And thanks for the info, really appreciate it. I have another question for ya, I know the Jdm Sir-G is rated at 180hp, and i know it could be from the gas the Japan gets or they could be plain lying, but are their any internal differences between the Jdm gsr motor and the Usdm. Like compression ratio, cams, etc.

Yes, the CR on the JDM motor is 10.6:1 while the CR on the USDM is 10:1

It sounds like it would be a noticable difference, but back when I had my USDM motor I could still outrun my pal's JDM B18C (SiR-G) motor and we had identical mods and both had 1992 Si hatches.

Cams? Probably no difference, but if there is then it's not noticable either.
