Chirping sound after timing belts replaced?/
The timing balancer belt and timing belt were replaced along with a new water pump and oil seals. We also put a set of AEM cam gears at the same time. The valve cover was trimmed to expose the cam gears. Ever since these items were installed, i can hear a chirping sound coming from the area of where the cam gears are. My mechanic says that it is the timing belts that cause this sound and eventually it will fade and go away. For the first hundred miles, the sound was very, very loud. It has diminished a bit, but is still present. Car has been run about 800 miles since these parts were installed.
Is this normal? Car runs perfectly.
Thanks,

If he replaced all your belts like he should have maybe he didn't tighten the alternator or power steering belt enough and they are slipping?
Mike - who just changed his timing belt.

Sounds like slippage to me too. I adjusted some cam gears for a buddy of mines and when he came in, his car was squeeling/squeeking like an SOB! I go to loosen the tension on the belts and I didn't even have to do anything since the place that he took it to install the gears already did it for me! It's a miracle his car was still in one piece.
Also make sure that the belts aren't in contact with anything. Might be rubbing against some of the plastic covers...especially if they cut it and left some pieces loose.

no man, i was having this same problem, those things are loud as ****!!
you have to tighten the AC belt or the p/s belt because they are a lil too loose so its usually more noticeble when we have a lightweight flywheel that the crank moves up and down so fast so the noise is more likely to happen, i got it too just tighten the belt a lil bit and see if that takes care of it.
