I'm thinking of having my PY ITR repainted. If I do this this means I need new badges right? Also how much do you think it would cost since I just want it painted the same color? Thanks

You can reuse the badges. A quality paint job will run you around 2k and up including all materials.

How can you reuse badges? Once you take them off they don't stick anymore.

Depends on who's definition of "good" and where you end up going....... As was stated earlier 2000 and up is probably decent. And yes, your badges should be reuseable.

I figured since they don't have to repaint the door jams or under the hood or hatch then it shouldnt be to much. Also PY paint code Y-56 is a base coat clear coat paint job unlike the R-81 milano red which is a 3 stage so it should be cheaper.

A basecoat/clearcoat paint is pretty typical nowadays so thats what the price is normally based off of. And while we're on the subject, most shops that paint milano red use a Base/clear conversion from the standard formula, which is often developed for a large number of oem tri coat paints. While they often still get to charge insurance the cost to repair a tricoat in a collision, in reality most still spray a base/clear. I would still say that in the neighborhood of around $2000 and up will be a decent job for you taken in the fact you aren't doing the jambs.

That sounds about right. Do you think the base clear from a shop will hold up better then factory?

$2000+. Most body shops around my area will charge $2000-$3000 for the whole car. The best and most reputable shop around me, which is known for their excellent work, will charge about $4000 for the whole car.

It will cost exactly 1 leg, 4 fingers and probably one of the "boys" to get a good paint job. Otherwise go by what these guys said.

I'm getting everything except the roof and bumpers painted again due to key marks, and it will cost $2k. So for the bumpers and roof also, add another $1k.

The bodyshop painting my car is also the most expensive and best in town!

Let's not confuse most expensive with best. I have found the best priced shop in Phoenix is the best. A lot of places jack their prices up to create the illusion of quality.

http://www.scottscoachworks.com/ is by far the best place in Phoenix. My car is always crap compared to the other cars they are working on, but they still treat me the same as the guy that brings in his Porsche for work.

I got some quotes locally the cheapest was 3,000.00 They dismantel the car and do it the right way. One paint shop told me that factory paint is the best and that you will never get better quality. That kinda pissed me off. Made me wonder how long theyre paint jobs last. They quoted me $4,000.

If they are going through and dismantling the car most likely they are willing to go through loops to make sure the car is done right. Sounds like they will be spraying the door jams and everything else. Now they are correct in saying it will never be as good as the OEM was but just ask them what kind of warranty they have.

You can easily save yourself about $1000 to $1500 alone if you do all the masking and prep work yourself. That's what's killing you, the labor.

Take the time to do it yourself and you'll save a buck or two.

Just my $.02

No I dont want them to do the dorr jams because the vin and engine code are on there. Plus it doesnt need that because Im painting it the stock color. They should charge less because painting the door jams and engine bay is probably the biggest hassle.

just make sure you get it done right the first time. Do the whole car (everywhere visable). If you just paint parts of the car you will never be happy.

Perhaps a Jap front while your at it?

My understanding is because it is baked on at the factory and thus more durable than what you typically get from the aftermarket.
