Default is this a z6 or y8 head

okay this kid sold me a z6 block and said it had a y8 head. He swears it is a y8 head. Not that it matters to me because either one will work for what I am doing. I just want to make sure I get the thing all aligned right because it has the y8 cam gear on it and I think the y8 cam gear is 4 degrees advanced as opposed to the z6
my z6 valve cover fits the head, and a td42u z6 dizzy fits the head so I am almost sure it is a z6. My z6 head I have on my car now has po8-3 stamped on it and this one has po8-5. My main concern is I have an adjustable cam gear and I need to know who to set it and I want to get a zex cam and I need to know which one to get. sorry so long thanx
CAsey

just look at the date stamped on the head if it was made in 92-95 it has to be a z6. 96-00 its a y8

what does the head stamp say? it should be right about the #2 and #3 exhaust ports. z6 should be P08-? and y8 should be P2J-?

i have the same problem too. i bought crx z6 block, but im not sure if the head is a z6. ONly because i was checking out the valve cover and i pulled on a bolt and it came out easily. is that a bad thing? All the bolts do the same

po8-5 is a D16Z6 head. should be from a 94.

Look on the head. There is an identification with a circle split in two with a number in each. If its 92-95 its a Z6, if its 96+ its a Y8. You can almost tell by the chambers of the Head if u took it apart.

look at the year on it. its in front above the exhaust manifold. or you can tell by looking at the bottom of the head. z6 has round combustion chamber and y8's are more squared off. you can also tell by looking at the lost motion assemblies.
