Hole in Intake...Need Help???
While driving, I noticed a hissing noise throwing off the normal exhaust sound...after a quick inspection...i noticed a hole in my intake...apperantly the matal bar supporting the exhaust broke off leaving a small hole in it.
I guessing this is the source of the noise...need to know if this is bad for engine...
also plannig of buying a new intake...which is better for me...AEM Cold Air Intake or AEM V2 Intake...or other brands...plaese comment
02 Civic Ex w/ usual boltons

I meant the bracket that supports the intake apperantly broke off the intake leaving a hole, I have read that this is common on cheap intakes....well i guess mine was cheap...
anyways...im not sure if that is the source of the noise but i also think it might have to do w/ the catalytic converter...i dunno
need help...c'mon guyz lend me a hand...comments welcome!!!

That'll probably last a day or 2 so you can get a real fix...
hey man if u still need help desiding on intakes aem is definitly the way to go. cheap stuff just doesnt fly. i have heard the v2 is good, not sure as to why its so good. i have a regular cold air with a bypass valve and it works great on my accord. my friend has the same year and i say stick with the regular stuff, cause the v2 i think has an overbareing noise, like its really loud. if your like me u'll want something that gives u the power without all that noise. i like to hear more of the exhaust. so yea i hope that helped u out a little

I don't understand how you can justify that a $250 AEM intake is worth the extra money over a $50 ebay one with a K&N filter. Both are just tubes and the extra .5 whp from the V2 is nothing to get excited about. IMO, the extra $170 to get an AEM is no where near worth the extra money.

hey guys I appriciate the suggestions. Hadn't thought about but is true, a .5 whp increase is not all that great, but I'm thinking if I buy another simple intake do you think I'll have the same problem w/ the bracket.
One last thing, funny how I have a three year extented warranty on my civic, you could almost say from bumper to bumper, and I took it to the dealer (not a Honda dealer) where i bought it and all they did was secure the intake w/ a plastic ring.
I ain't letting that fly supposely they're going to get me an intake over the weekend or something like tat...but jst a quick question...is it bad if im driving the way it is right now????

i wouldnt worry to much about the intake thing. driving it wont hurt it that much unless u get something sucked into that little hole (which is less than likely). so i would just keep driving it. i was thinking, u could probably get some good power out of a custom intake...like make your own and create like a ram air... make it almost like forced induction. if u could rig it up the right way u could get more air that is forced in the faster u go. kinda hard to explain hope u understand. but if not i say go aem, thats just me, if the cheap stuff didnt work before why do it again? so yea hope that helps ya a little more!

A cheap pep boys intake will work just as well as any other intake. There was a thread on here a while back where high dollar (J's Racing, AEM, etc..) intakes were compared with cheap ebay specials on the dyno... and they were all about equal.

Bypass valves serve as a precaution against sucking water through your cold air intake and damaging your engine. It might not be a bad idea with a cold air intake but won't serve any purpose with a sri.
