Default Mainshaft strength

ok, now im getting far, my question is, after ive undone all the tranny mounts and engine to transmission bolts, can the mainshaft support the entire transmission by itself or do i need to support the tranny while removing that stuff

shaft will support itself, transmission is not heavy enough to cause damage.

You know, I've never thought of that. I've done so many transmission/engine swaps and have left the tranny hanging without any problems. Of course, I never left it hanging over night or anything. If you're worried, get a floor jack and a 2 by 4 to support it.
