its official, im blowing blue smoke.....
This fuking sux. My car has been eating more and more oil lately...im up to a quart about every 800 miles hard driving. I have had friends follow me around to look for signs of smoke, i had friends drive my car with me following to look for smoke nothing. Until yesterday. My buddy was driving my car i was behind in another friends car checking out my purdy all red tails. He drops to second and punches it, big puff of blue/black smoke as he takes off. Third gear same thing not THAT noticeable though and only at wot above 4500 (vtec) Did it a couple times same thing puffs of blue/black smoke....I was worried about the oil consumption even before i actually saw the smoke so i took my car to the shop and had them look it over about 2 weeks ago....pcv valve was fine, compression between 185-190 on all 4 not great numbers but not very low and they were consistent which means its not the rings. I was told more then likely its the valve seals/guides...i would have to have the head pulled to have everything replaced and while im at it with my mileage (105k) im better off replacing the rings too. Hell i might as well drop in some pistons while im at it. Oh but guess what im broke and have no money right now for anything
I went to pep boys bought the most expensive stop smoke goo thing that they had and dumped that in there, hopefully that will help a little. Anyway i think i just needed to vent. If i wanted a car that smokes and burns oil like that i woulda kept my tsi awd

Don't put that crap in your engine!!!
In the manual it specifically states not to use any oil additives. All that stuff does is thicken the oil which *might* stop the oil consumption but it will also make the oil flow like constipated crap.

damn that sucks, you will know its the seals in the head when everytime your car sits for a while and the gets turned on a puff of blue smoke comes out. my old celica gts did that before i spun a bearing. i was leakin through the valves bad and eventually lost oil pressure. i suggest until you get the money to break open the motor, keep a very close eye on the dipstick, and if you dont have them, get oil pressure and temp guages so you can monitor things. and dont put none of that crap into the engine.. if you wanna thicken things up, use 10-w40 if ur using 10-w30... my friend has a gsr with 110K miles and was burning oil in VTEC and he swithed to 40weight and it improved some... b/f i spun the bearing on the toyota i was at 20-w50 (with 190K miles though)
that sucks man.............new valve seals are only a few dollars each
but taking the head and pistons out can be a pain in the ***
good luck......

well i already dumped that syrup crap in there yesterday....im running 5-30 syn for the winter and 10-30 in the summer. I dont care at this point about it I hate my car right now
No gauges either, but I check the oil dipstick antifreeze etc once a week anyway. Im just going to drive it gingerly and keep adding oil until i can afford to fix the damn thing. Nothing much i can do. Thanks for the support.

MRsmith: depending on how much $$ you plan to spend on the engine it might not cost you all that much........
if you just buy OEM pistons and rings with new valve seals the whole job will probably cost you less than 1k if you do it yourself.
that doesnt include boring and honing the block.........i guess if you want to get oversized pistons then the whole engine has to come out.
