Need HELP check engine light???????
As I was driving home I noticed ones I passed the 5000 RPM mark on my cluster my engine sounded very bad and loose power actually after the VTEC kicks in and my check engine light came on. The engine starts and eveything and runs good until VTEC kicks in I have a 98 civic EX single overhead cam in other words D16. Can somebody help. Thanks. Also the check engine light blinks.
i'm not sure whats wrong w/ your engine.. maybe bad plugs/wires.
if your CEL is on/blinking you can check it yourself.
Get a thin piece of wire/metal (paperclip, copper wire, etc.) and go underneath your passenger sides foot area. On the right side you should see a plastic thingy (Dont know what to call it) but it has wires coming into it and hanging loose, it might even have a rubber thing protecting it. Get the wire and put one on each side and leave it in.
Turn your ignition all the way on (the 2nd click). But dont start the engine. If you connected correctly the CEL will be blinking.. First a series of long blinks then a series of quick ones..(might be vice versa). Long blinks or short.. which ever one is the first number of your CEL number. The next series is the 2nd number.. if the rythmn is the same then its just a single digit CEL.
Sorry about the shitty write up but if you search you can find a more descriptive write up on it.
Oh yeah.. just check the engine code on GOOGLE..
Good luck
