Sometimes I wonder why I do this.
This could of been a house:

I've been trying to figure out what drives me to singlemindedly pursue this wallet killing, time sucking hobby. I remember having so much fun at the track in my car back when it was stock. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock and talk myself out of my first mod, an ATS fd and Clutchmasters flywheel, but I doubt that would of done much than just delay the inevitable.
The last and only track day I went to this year resulted in my car puking oil everywhere and nearly bursting into flames. I haven't driven it in about 4 months. I've had an engine in my dining room for about 2 of them. As cool as that sounds the romance wore off long ago, believe me. I haven't totaled up all my receipts, but I'd guess I've spent nearly $30,000 on just mods. I bought my car brand new. That makes it a $70,000 Integra (CAD). Holy f@ck.
I just want my car to run. And I want it to not break. While I'm at it give me a Swedish volleyball team and 50 lbs of lime jello.
Maybe I've just become too far removed from the old days when my car ran. Chasing BPR around Mission, killing big blocks at stop lights, passengers trying to keep their heads on their shoulders. Spring drives with the windows down for the first time of the year and vtec whispering promises of greatness in my ears. A smile bisecting my face until it's almost pain full.
Maybe the first time I start her back up I'll remember why I've been doing all of this.
Maybe.

I feel you. This is pretty much the reason why I sold my turbo system this last fall. A well working N/A engine for me and I'm ******* done! I'd rather buy surfboards and pay my rent or actually (dare I say this....) drive the car at a frickin track!!!
Keep your chin up. Oh did that turbo part I sold you get there yet?

hell i just started thinking the same thing. but luckily i put it all to the side and bought a house first. made sure i can afford my hobby and continued with it. But the wife wants me happy ( love her ) and my car keeps me happy when im not home. its just one of those phases we all go though. once i finish my car ( turbo gsr motor, paint and rims ) thats it..not dumping anymore money into my car. saving for my future and kids.
There is no way you can avoid it. I am the same way.
Just think of it this way: If you aren't doing it to your ITR right now, you'll be doing it to a Porsche later on... or a Miata.

Maybe you learned a lesson?
I know I haven't.
Anyhow, get it back together. Sign up for an event early in spring to give yourself a deadline.

Corny but true.
Talk about "diminishing marginal returns" with all those mods. I never understood why the ITR isn't good enough for people the way it is.

I can't imagine the downtime. I can't believe I almost went the boosted route. This is EXACTLY what I wanted to avoid. Much love to your project though. You and I(plus many others) know that your car will be a monster soon enough. It WILL be worth while once you start rollin' again.
My pants are still wet from that ride you took me on
And the wallet thing, well, I'm probably 20g's deep and my internals are still stock. Go figure*shrug*
I want a ride. I call dibs

i kind of went through something similar. i built a road race car. fully built motor. with cage and all. probably like 80% done to get it on actualy track legally. freakin motor blew (expensive ******* motor). and i kinda just said expletive it. thew a stock on in there.
then i bought my ITR. came with an intake. i put it all back to stock. and i cant be happier. i mean, i wouldnt mind suspension. but 100% stock feels good. and its so much fun whooping up on modified cars at the track

Thanks for the love guys. Today I'm installing my new vaccuum mani (thanks Brandon
), getting a ss clutchline made, and trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my flywheel. People say I should replace the friction surface, but it's like $150 shipped! I think I'll try to machine it or maybe even just leave it. I mean, the clutch dick wil just wear into it, right?
<-------Patiently waiting for his intake mani, it's been in the mail for 5 weeks. From Cali!

I learned my lesson, unfortunately it's causing me to sell my caR. I need to chill for a bit, pay some loans and visa's off and hopefull I will be back with a smarter head on my shoulders. I know I'll miss mine when she's gone. Don't worry guy, I'm sure you'll love it again when it kicks over for the first time

I know how you feel, when you haven't done something fun w/ the car for a while you start to wonder what your doing spending all this cash and you don't even drive it. I'm sure when you get back on track all these feelings will go away, hang in there

I dunno. I think he's on the right track. Builder's remorse, or common sense kicking in? I was spending gobs of cash on my motorcycle and then realized I was getting in way over my head, and needed to save money for a house, or maybe a ring or something. Now I'm looking for a cheaper bike and returning my ITR to stock.
Dr. Shitface, I think you should tone your car down a bit. You'll have more fun and feel more responsible about how you're living your life.
Running stock ITR > 400whp ITR on jackstands.

Yeah, how about that? Granted, the ITR isn't the fastest car on the block, and definitely too slow for your professional hands and feet, but it shines the most when it's used as a mildly modded car that you can drive to and from the track. Once you do things like take out the rear seats or destroy its ability to drive in bad weather, it starts to lose its appeal very quickly and you get threads like this.

REPORTING FOR DUTY.........SIR!!!
I think I have most of you beat.... in mid 2003 I acquired my friend's 5th gen hatch and proceeded to build it for what would be the equivalent of H4/H5 in Honda Challenge.
I took the R off the road and came up with this BRILLIANT idea of pulling parts off of it and installing it on the Civic.
It's basically 2006 now. It's sorta put back together. It has less than 70k kms for a reason cuz I can never get it running for more than 8 months out of any year since 2000. It's tough when you open the garage and feel guilty and above all else stupid....but I haven't lost faith yet....I intend to somehow go to Expo7
Keep your head up Pooman.... you're almost there....
