Question: Difficulty of swapping out iginiton
Car died today and had my friend diagnose the issue. So now that it has been sourced to the ignition is it a hard thing to switch out? Looked on the threads here couldnt find a How to. So all i have to go on is my trusted Helms guide. But if any HT peeps changed theirs out please advise. Thanxs!!!
i've never done it myself, but i do know that it's a pain in the *** because you basically have to tear apart the steering column just to get to the old one. once that's out, it's just basic wiring (make sure the battery is disconnected first), and then reassembly.
still might take you the better part of a day to do though, it's just that labor intensive.

Thank you for response. Im thinking its labor intensive as well. I was gonna take it somewhere but i know ill get killed on labor cost, so why not do it myself. I guess ill just have to plan an open day for it. Time to print up the pages from Helms.
The elec portion of the igniton switch isn't very hard. Maybe 15 mins top. Once you remove the steering column, you can see the two screw that hold the elec. portion of the switch to lock.
when my sister's '94 EG8 had ignition problems, we were quoted $500 for the repair, all parts and labor included. again, the problem is getting to the damn thing, i dunno if you've ever tried to take your steering column apart, but it ain't a quick and easy job.
Not too hard at all. Taking apart a steering column takes about 15 minutes for the mechanically inclined. You just need your screwdriver, 12mm and 10mm ratchet and extension set.

Y'all don't have to take the steering column apart, just drop the column covers. There was an update for the igntion switch for the civic, accords, and CRVs. Trust me, it isn't that difficult.
