Default 93 Si, cluster spazzing out

I am posting this for my uncle, so forgive me if its a commonly asked question. I rean over a few searches and didnt find much about a service manual or cluster removal for this generation (I'm an EF guy).

From his mouth:
It's a 93 Honda Civic SI with a 5 speed manual transmission. The symptoms include the speedometer indicator rotating all the way clockwise past 100 mph and staying pegged against the mechanical stop pin located in the dial. The odometer however is unaffected by all of this and is operating normally. At times the speedometer functions normally and sometimes (not always) if I bang on the dash board the symptoms disappear and the speedometer will slowly rotate counter-clockwise and indicate properly. Because this is an intermittent fault, I suspect a faulty electrical connection or possibly a cold solder joint somewhere in the dash.

So yeah, anybody got experience with it?

im not sure on thte exact problem but im guessing either the VSS elec. connection is bad or a faulty wiring behind the cluster

possibly a short on the back of the cluster since when you hit it it goes away

check theses and repost

My main question is how to get the cluster off. As I'm not there (he lives about 600 miles away), I cant take it off for him. Anybody have pics or tips on how to get it out?

I believe it is 2 screws that are in the area around the cluster on the top. And there is one screw behind the hazard light switch( you have to pop it out with a screw driver to get to the screw) Then the black piece around the cluster comes out when those three are out. Then four more screws hold the cluster in which are in clear view.
