Default Bitch Pin

anyone know how to remove the bitch pin from the shift linkage? it looks like the bottom part of the pin (roll pin) is larger so it can only go one way? Is this true? what side do I knock it out from?

You need an 8mm ball punch to remove it correctly. The ball allows it to center itself on the hollow pin and you can wack away w/ your sledge hammer. You can hit it out either way but you can't from the top because the motor is there! Hit it from the bottom and it'll eventually come out once your arm feels like it is about to fall off.

P.S. It is possible to get out without the proper ball punch, but it is a pain in the *** (I know from personal experience).

Yup.

Invest in the correct punch. You will thank yourself. Plus, they only cost a few bucks.

I have an 8mm punch and the bitch pin is no longer an issue at all

You need a 5/16 Ball pin punch. I bought one from the Snap on guy for 16.00 dollars. The pin is a pain in the *** to get out if its the first time doing it.

wouldn't it be easier to just remove the shift linkage at the shifter? does that even have to be done?

yea just hit it with the 8mm punch. it doesn't look like it's moving, but after a good amount of time, it will start to move. just be patient. i took my first bitch pin out this summer while doing my first swap with my brother. good luck bro.

Or, you can just pull it out with the swap, then disconnect it from top which is easier because you actually have leverage. The shifter moves freely so you can maneuver it around to get it out of the engine bay.

If you take the motor/trans out with the linkage attached you can get it from the top.

use the bolt that connects the manifold to the cat. It is the perfect size to knock out the pin

Get a spare one, 'cause if you take out the pin as often as I do you'll munch the bolt up. Also, use a pair of vice grips so that you don't whack the **** out of your hand by accident.

The 8mm bolts I use to pry the brake drums off work fine for this too.

if you figure out how the speedo cable is retained in the transmission, let me know, cause mine keeps popping out.

pounding out the bitch pin is not good for your input shaft... If you can't get it in one or two solid wacks then just take out the shift linkage... Its easier on you and the tranny
