Power steering pump is going, take it off now?
It's leaking from around the pully shaft i think. The powersteering fluid drips to the bottom of the pump and then pools and drips down to the engine bay. I heard a ticking noise from that area the other day, it's not doing it anymore. I tried to tell if it got louder with more revs, it wasn't loud enough to be sure.
Anyways, should i take the belt off just in case? Should i just wait it out until the pump seizes and does it for me? My high-pressure line busted in my old accord, i didn't mind the hiway driving.. parking and driving downtown was a bitch though.
I don't have money to even get a pump from the wreakers right now, so that's not an option. I'm gonna drive this z6 into the ground and then put a d15 in with some boost.

well man i would take it off if i was you to prevent a potentially dangerous situation. I dont know much about the power steering cause my cx dont have it lol but if ur car would just run fine only have a manual steering like situation then u should take it off man. ah **** i just realized u asked about the belt. yes take it off.
IMO Just take your power steering off, thats horse power. You dont need that crap, i dont have it on my 00 coupe and i love it.

If you remove the power steering pump I believe you will eventually wear out the rack and pinion since the rack is designed for power steering. So expect to replace it later on down the road...It can be a pain in the ace.

What if i just left the belt off and didn't remove the pump. Is the fact that the fluid is still in the system, enough to keep the rack happy for a while?
I would have to say no. Yea the seals will keep lubed from the fluid but the fact that your putting all of that extra strain on the rack will wear it out still. You could just pull out your power steering lines and pump and change out the rack with a manual rack.

Beware when doing a rack conversion.
From my experience, the bolt location on the passenger side is different for manual racks. It's off by half an inch. You may need the whole cross member or fabricate a bracket to hold the rack.
I converted my 95 del sol S with an SI rack and pinion and ran into this problem.

Hrrmmm, i just re-visited this post. As much as i like the better road feel, i don't want to have to replace a rack.. esp without tools or a garage
I'll probably bite the bullet and grab a pump from the wreakers. How much do you guys figgure i can get one for?

I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. Try your nearest junkyard for the pump.

I've got everything back together and running again. There is a cover-plate on the bottom of the pump with two bolts.. the bastard was loose so that's where my leak was. Got a new belt and everything seems to be running decent.
Now it's time to start saving for some axles, i've done the cv joint boot kit on both and they are starting to get worse... it never ends...
