should my timing belt have 1 1/4 play in it
i just changed my water pump on my B16a2 and after i put everything together and tightened the tensioner and every thing i noticed my timing belt has about 1 1/4 in play in it, 5/8 in either way, on the left side, the side that the belt goes straight from the left cam gear to the crank gear. the engine is out of the car because its a new engine and i decided to do the water pump before it goes in the car, so i dont know how it ran. should i get a new timing belt. the old one looks realy good but it may be stretched. thank.

exactly what I told him in his other thread about the same thing. I guess some people need to hear things a few times before they get it.

no i havent rotated it 4 times, should i rotate even though the tensioner is as tight as it can be, and when i get done rotating it if it is still loose should the belt be replaced. Thanks

only replace the belt if its the wrong one. if its the right length, your tensioner could be the problem, but i think you'll be fine once you've turned the motor over by hand a couple rotations.
