Copied from my post in Honda-acura.net
I was talking about this in someone elses thread so I did'nt want to take it over. I just ordered a rebuilt B16A longblock with Crower Rods and crower cams. What do you think? Now that baby will be ready for boost. It has a an OEM head gasket. Do you think I should upgrade it? If so, what brand? Also, do you think I should get a block guard? If so, what brand. And I don't know the compression ratio and I called the guy I bought it from and he can't remember exactly but he said it's primo for a turbo application. I'm not gonna take his word for it so how do I find out. I thought only pistons changed the CR. Should I call Crower. I don't know much about internals so I don't want to sound like an ***. To get a lower CR without replacing internals I would need to have the block shaved right? thanks for the help.
Why would you buy something you know nothing about? I hope you bought it cheap. Block gard is no help. You could probably run 10 lbs boost with the proper fuel and spark management with 10-1 cr if they are stock pistons. Most builders combine crower rods with a higher quality piston. Has the head been reworked? Nothing wrong with stock head gasket if all else is right. I'd take the eng. apart and check to see if bearings are new, if it really has Crowers, etc. etc.
