88 accord. when clutch depressed, wants to die...
i have a 1988 accord and when i am moving along the road at normal speeds and then have to stop, at a street light for example, i shift down from like fourth gear to third and then third gear to second, and then depress the clutch and brake to a stop, then the motor starts to idle very very low like its going to die, and sometimes it does. what is the problem??? please help...
u could have a vacc leak, u could have carb problems,, first make sure the pcv valve is ok,, if it is leaking will give u a very low idle,,,,,,,pcv valve is located behind valve cover below the air cleaner bracket, ,, let car idle, get some pliers, squeeze the pcv valve hose ,,if idle smooths u found the source........if that does not help,, try blowing out the idle circuit,, remove air cleaner on back of carb there is the idle solenoid, first off turn key on and off make sure u hear it click ,, if it clicks remove the 8 mm nut, careful do not loose the solenoid 0-ring, spray some carb cleaner in the hole, u need some compressed air, blow airin the hole as well do it 2 times, put together and see if idle smoothes up.. ..Try those and post results
get that clutch some prozac soon! It may try to commit suicide!
seriously tho: does it also idle low when it's in neutral without the clutch depressed, or is it only when the clutch is in? if only when the clutch is in, the clutch could be dragging a little, putting some slight load on the motor causing the low idle. if that's the case adjusting the clutch should resolve the problem.

clutch adjustment won't solve this problem,,,,,,,,,if it is too tight ( no free play ) it will slip. if too loose ( too much free play ) it wil have a hard time engaging gears..... but he said nothing about that..
