Default Low cam lobe damage...pitting. WTF?

I just bought some RS Machine cams from a fellow member, whom I am not at all trying to flame. At this point I'm simply trying to find out if anyone has heard of this problem.

The pitting is only on the low cam. 1 lobe on the intake side, and three on the exhaust side. There is no significant scoring ( won't even come close to catching the fingernail) However the small pitting is deep enough to catch a fingernail, and in all 4 cases in right at the edge of the lobe, the scoring is in the same place as the pitting, except of course, it wraps all the way around the lobe. Basically it looks like tiny pits right at the apex/summit/peak of the low cam lobe.

At this point I don't want to run these in my car. I was thinking about sending them to delta (they repaired and reground my friends cam, and it looks perfect). But i want to get some other opinions first.

looks like damage from to tight of a valve lash setting and contaminants in the oil

Let me guess. That lobe is at one end of the cam.

nope, it's on 4 different lobes. 1 intake, 3 exhaust, spread pretty evenly

yeah, I don't think I'll be sandpaper-ing back to "good as new". Plus the correct media would be emory cloth.

Sand paper on lobes =

The profile used most likely has too much lift and cannot "fit" on to the casting. This is what cam grinders call "not cleaning up" all the way. This occurs more frequently on the exhaust cams as the raw lobes on the exhaust cores are smaller.

Just send it back to RS and get a new set. No biggie.

Delta can fix it for $85-135 depending of if they have to make some part or not. Maybe they'll start doing VTEC cams since they're working on mine. I've previosly heard that they will not touch a VTEC cam.

sent them off to Delta yesterday. I was able to work out a deal with the guy that sold them to me, he's paying half, which is pretty cool considering the pitting probably wasn't his fault. In case anyone wants to buy from CleanEG, he gets a vouch from me. He was great to deal with and stood behind the transaction with integrity.
