I wish I could take the R out there this weekend. From the looks of it, it seems like a great place for a HPDE first-timer like me. Oh well, there's always early spring.

have fun,
Matt

You will have fun at the Rock. The banking is a hoot. I'll be sitting out this weekend. I have been gone every weekend, for more than a month. I am just kind of burned out on traveling. Plus, what tires I have left might not make it a whole weekend at Rockingham. Have fun!

You name it, it will be there. Lots of BMW's, Miata's and Honda's, Old and New Z Cars, Vettes. Probably some odd ball cars too, you never can tell.

I was planning on going this weekend, but I had to cancel for a business trip to Boston. Have fun out there!

That's not funny.

(Okay, it's kind of funny)

Sadly I won't be there. If I do anything motorsports related, it'll be the 13 hour enduro at VIR this weekend. The ARRC is next weekend, and I just can't afford the ARRC and, well, anything else...especially doing a glorified arrive and drive...

Really? Was he invited to not come back again ever?

I remember Mark tried to put me in that thing to instruct.

...."Dude. I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam......"

I am pretty sure he was gone for the weekend, but not sure if he was gone for good. He may be back this time...

Is that an instructor's worst nightmare? I middle aged Lambo owner who's never done a track event and doesn't want to get passed by a CRX.

Yall be nice to the Lamborghini owner. At least he had the car out there. In his defense, he had some major brake issues (admittedly a result of lousy car prep).

Front wheel bearing play and fixed from calipers = LOTS of pad kickback. He had to pump up the brakes for every braking zone. His fault for bringing a car with bum wheel bearings, but he brought it out.

So how did he make it through tech?

That's a fair question. I think a fair answer is perhaps they said "Well, it's a Lambo. Perhaps it's *supposed* to be like that...."

We don't exactly get too many of those at our events.....

Tech is only as good as the mechanic signing the tech form. In the end, there aren't many track events where you cant get a bad part through tech.

For that matter, I seem to recall a lot more through event-day tech at autocrosses than track events. I've run with Car Guys, THSCC and MAARC and none of them were as thorough at the track as the tech at an average autocross.

I did see the Lambo jacked up at the event, and I saw the amount of free play in the front bearings, it wasn't horrible. It just happened to be enough that the pad kick back was a problem. the owner tried to drive around it (pump up the brakes) and when that didn't work out for him he went home. I don't actually think we (THSCC) sent him packing, I think he made the choice himself.

I was not sure if it was his choice or not. Thanks for clearing it up. I did seem to recall there there were "issues" on track, and an instructor that did not seem to happy... I think it is all water under the bridge now and we should leave the guy alone...unless there is something good to learn from it.

I forgot about how the tech form worked... it's been a while.

Awesome, awesome weekend. A few car fatalities: 350Z into NASCAR 2 (red mist), and an Integra (someone checked up hard on a yellow flag and his "out" was into the retaining wall...).

Weather was perfect.
