Not driving @ 5k rpms constantly. If you do I hope you plan on taking some 1hr or so long breaks. But besides that what youve stated is the best you can do w/o buying a crate motor.

haha yeah, i was going 90 the whole way. i had to stop ever 130-150miles for gas. it was about 30minute breaks in between. the first day i got back, it felt sluggish, because i was packed with stuff inside to the top. but now its coming back to its state it was in before. but i still need to change those out anyway. but right before that seems like my injectors were going out anyway. doesnt help when i have a 4.4 final drive either.
I think theoretically it would wear your engine out sooner but how much, who knows...
Id definately change your oil and do a full tune up before you travel that long. Ive driven my car cross country twice with a jdm itr tranny so I know how bad it sucks. LS 5th gear helps alot though, you should do that one day...
Set your tire pressures a little high too...

5k???...
u definetly have to keep it lower than that to get better mileage as well as not get a ticket i would think...id just cruise down at 55-60 to keep it just right
tuneup doesnt sound like a bad idea though...i would do it..ive taken long trips like that so good to always be prepared

I drove 4000 miles, from Washington to Nebraska and back, 400 miles after building my 2.0L. I changed the oil right before I left, and right when I got there. I also have the ATS Final drive, so cruising at 80mph is roughly 5000rpms.

yes i did do a tuneup before i left. and no it would have not gotten better gas mileage at a lower speed. it took the same amount of load at 5k rpm at 90mph as it would at 70mph which is the majority of the speed limit. i tried it out and the same mpg would show.
i love road trips although each time i do go on one i rent a car. its safer all around, it breaks down they give you a new one, it gets stolen, they give u a new one or you get in an accident its like whatever... i dont think i wanna drive to bumb F egypt and get my hatch stolen...

the trip was done before this thread. i was just wwondering what you guys would suggest. but i just sea foamed it yesterday. a lot of smoke. haha and car runs smoother again, a lot quieter in the head, and i can beat 350zs again. haha. but around 7k and up it is a slight bit slower revving than before it seems. ill see how it goes later after the oil change, tranny fluid change, ignition changes.
