Default Leaky Vtec Solenoid

hmm. i'm not sure where to place this thread but since i have a 98' EK hatch, i might as well put it here

So my motor started leaking oil from the upper Vtec Solenoid gasket, so i went to honda to order a gasket for a 1999 Civic Si, since i assume that the Si's B16A2 Vtec solenoid is the same as my B16A SiR II's solenoid. But i took the gasket home and it didn't fit correctly, i can't return it cuz i already open the package. So i'm wondering which gasket for which car to order now, since the one for the 1999 Si don't work...

gasket looks something like this since i can't take a pic of my actual one

i think you need to order one from an SiR. They probably gave you one for a single cam vtec.

to clarify: it's a special order part cuz no H0nda dealer in So Cal carries it. So i just can't take my old gasket to the dealer and compare it to a new one.*gay* . the gasket i ordered has the same shape as the one from my solenoid, just that it was much thinner, it didn't even fill up the ring gap. when i went to honda, they pulled up a picture of the B16A2 engine and located the exact part. yet it didn't fit

oh by the way, i believe the Canadian SiR is the same as the USDM Si

For a temporary fix, you can use a small amount of hondabond on the gasket to seal it up better. Good luck finding the right gasket tho

yeah. the parts # is 36172-P08-015

i thought it'd come with the gasket and the filter attached inside the 0-ring part of the gasket, but it only came with the bare rubber gasket, no filter

i guess hondabond it is then...

I checked at work today and they gave you the right gasket for a 99 with a b16a2. It's wierd that they're not compatible. I guess Hondabond will have to save the day again

You should throw a little HondaBond on there anyway, but I replaced the gasket on my B16A SiR II with one from the 94 DelSol VTEC model. Worked like a champ.

i'll second that, my bro's SiR-II B16 uses Del Sol Vtec replacement parts.

You can order it from any of the following:

http://www.hondapartsdeals.com
http://www.slhondaparts.com
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/home.htm

Just make sure its the VTEC model you order from.
