Well my fresh built motor has been running great besides an oil leak. Well i finally decided to stop leaking oil and try to seal it up. Took off my VTEC solenoid (was the leak) and i found my fresh OEM spool valve filter to be split in several places. Here's a pic.


You guys ever had this i am worried its just gonna happen again when i buy a new filter/gasket.

Common problem. It's rubber. Heats up, cools down, ages, cracks. New gasket and you won't have a problem.

Well thats the thing though. This gasket is brand new, i replaced it when i did the buildup. But yeah its not a big deal, i was thinking maybe someone else had a problem like this, maybe the gasket gets pinched between the mating surfaces. Maybe i should oil it before it put it in.

The early JDM b16's had a ever so slightly different vtec solenoid. The gasket looks identical but the early one is thinner. The OBD-0 b16's need the gasket for a 91 NSX, the other USDM solenoid gaskets will not work. you learn something everyday.

Same thing happened to me. I bought a new solenoid gasket and after a couple of months, oil started leaking out again from that part. I havent pulled out the gasket yet but I think its broken (again).
My friend suggested that I put silicone to seal it better. I might just try that the next time I replace it with another new one. No rush and no biggie though.

If you have the older VTEC solenoid, get the 91 NSX correct gasket, you won't need any sealant with the correct gasket. I went to take mine off because i figured i'd put some sealant on it, then i realized the gasket was split, so just make sure to get the right gasket.

 

just get a new gasket and put honda bond around it you won't have any problems
