1990 honda accord is the new K car?
i remeber my parents talking about really reliable cars and they metioned a car named the K car and how reliable it was i think the 1989 Dodge Aries is one of them. well i think we have the new k car... 1990 honda accord, i been hearing story about how people put 220k on it and it running with no problem, curently i have 192k on mines and it runs like yesterday.
what u guys think, should it be inducted into the reliable car hall of fame?

If anyone should equate an Accord (of any year) to a Chrysler K Car, I would expect them by the pool, performing ritual suicide. Only the YUGO had a worst reputation as a throw-away car.
Ask any Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth mechanic with some gray hairs about K cars; and they'll regale you with stories of head gasket failures and other silly issues these cars presented for years. Techs retired from the wages they made working on those things!

I mean... a lot of people talk about how nissans are powerfull and how hondas are slow and stuff... but... ...why would i want a nissan with a lot of horsepower when it can only reach 150k miles and then its a piece of junk... I just rather have a honda or acura no matter what.... .....nissans suck, hondas RULE!!!
Peace!

Seriously, the K car's were not exactly a high point in Mopar history! They are basically the exact opposite of the accord with regards to reliability and build quality.

We attemped the same thing on a 96 civic hatch with 210k on it. Filled the oil with bleach, ran the **** outta it, put rocks in the oil, threw **** in the intake mani while running. A lot of fun things, and it still ran like a champ when we swaped in the b series.

flame me.. go ahead.. i'm ready. i have to make somewhat of a defense for domestics and longevity.
i have 210,000 on my old 5.0 and it still doesnt burn oil and will absolutely fry the tires 1-2 and bark 3rd..i got it when it had 140000 and ravaged it constantly for over 3 years..
i will say, though, that the car's electrical system is total garbage and the engine is now in another mustang w/the original junked.
AND i know another guy who has been hitting his stock 5.0 w/a 100 shot of nitrous for 2 years and hes gettin near 240,000.
my rents had an 81 escort 5 spd that went 28XXXX b4 it died.
and we had a crysler 5th avenue w/the 318 that had 23XXXX b4 we sold it. ran great too,we just needed somethin in better shape.
and i was recently part of a swap of some impala that had a 4.3 w/32XXXX.. and the car itself (body/interior was still in good shape.
and im not not dissing honda because i know that the above mentioned cars are probably not ordinary and that honda's historically will last longer.. but unless you get a lemon or its just an absolute piece or crap, it'll last. regular and religious maintenance will keep your car running!!
and as i final note.. i do have a friend that has an 91 SI civic hatch that was burning a quart of oil every 250 miles and it only had 174XXX on it.. but it still got 34 mpg
go figure.
damn im wordy..i apologize for such a long post
