Why i do i need to use impact stockets??
they will crack from the impact of the hammer inside the gun, but if they have a life-time warranty like craftsman or snap-on then go without the impact sockets and just be ready to go get them replaced as needed.

And wear safety glasses and have fun picking the shards of chrome sockets out of your arms.

Seriously. I've violently shattered some chrome plated sockets in my time and let me tell you - you don't want to be in the line of fire when those fragments get moving. Eye protection and long sleeves are your friend

impact sockets are thicker than chrome sockets and also have a harder rockwell hardness to withstand the brutal force.
the chrome sockets tend to round out cuz they're thinner. they werent made to be used with impact sockets. theyll shatter or split if they use them in that fashion .. maybe not right away but overtime they will break

Pretty sure it's the other way around. Impact sockets are "softer" so they don't shatter like porcelain under the repetitive blows.
Either way, the important is they don't take your eyes out. If you want to buy only one kind of socket then go all impact.

ive been using craftsman chromeys for 4 years now on impact guns and never had one crack, i did in fact have a snap on 12 point 3/8'' drive socket crack when i was torquing a head bolt at 75pds!!! craftsman is the gigna.

Yeah...
The chrome sockets seem like they fit looser around the bolts sometimes because of the wall thickness, they flex more under load, as opposed to the impact sockets, with thick walls.

Or just buy all impact sockets and use them on everything. I've broken so many regular Craftsman sockets that I only buy and use impact ones now if possible. I know its free to replace if they break, but getting pissed off and not being able to finish **** at 3 in the morning adds up to the difference in the price of the sockets.

the only problem there is that sometimes the impact sockets are too fat and wont fit where the clearance between the bolt head and another object are very tight. i have a few sizes of impact that i use and the rest are regular craftsman the only impact i have are 19mm, 17mm, 14mm, and 32mm.

damn guys...its not like any bolt on our motor is tightened to like 500lbs.
The crank pulley and axle nuts are the tightest @ around 130lbs.
Crome sockets will be fine. Maybe not on those two above but for everything else it should do.
yea sometimes they break..hell...I've broke them with regular hand tools before.
But for the most part they will be fine.

impact sockets are burlier to be able to take the shock stresses. But then again, I use regular craftsman sockets on my impact every day and I've never broke one and I've broke three regular craftsman sockets just using a breaker bar. So I say, if your dick fits, expletive it. Free warranty replacement costs less than new impact sockets.
i have one chrome socket i use on any of my impacts, its a 21mm 12 point for taking off wheels on infinitis (since thats what i work on everyday lol), all my other sockets are impact regardless of if i use them on impact or hand tools, i just have all snap on impacts, its just easier and lessens the amount i have to buy
been using chrome crapsman for 7 years on impacts......axles nuts mostly, never a single issue. I've even used the BIG gun with them....never had one shatter.
but...one thing i know NOT to do...NEVER EVER BANG 2 BALL PEEN HAMMERS TOGETHER! A dumb kid back in college did this...and lost his ******* eye

I used a 625ft/lb gun w/a craftsmen socket on my crank pulley bolt. It worked fine but I noticed that the wrench end of the socket had taken some abuse. The corners didn't seem as square when I was done. I do plan on investing in some impact sockets though.
