93 h22a1 112k on tranny and motor, maintance always done ahead of schedule. Drive home last night, drop some friends off, try to backup....nope not getting in. Came home, tried to manually do it with the levers on the tranny, goes into every gear but reverse. Wont go in for ****... I need help....bigtime....gimme some advice.
Drop the trans and find out the problem. I had a pressure plate bolt back out and lodged between the throw out bearing, couldn't even shift into any gears. I suspect it's something similar.
its nothing similar to that....
its somthing in the reverse gear assembly, it gets jammed....a lot of h series trannies have this problem....just try your hardest to jam it in and just work with it....it will grind and ****...dont worry
just jam on it...

yea i tried all that jamming and all...its not budging....so do I really have to drop the tranny? Where can i get a tranny alone, without the motor?
Try this.
LIGHTLY pull the shifter into reverse while letting out the clutch VERY slowly. When you let the clutch out about halfway, I have a STRONG feeling that it will let you into reverse.
DO NOT force it into gear!!
Let me know how it turns out.

ditto to that
but also try revving it up just a tiny bit, too.

I sometimes have this issue with 1st gear and reverse. It has happend with 2 H23 trannies, and even on my current H22 tranny. I do what I posted. Works everytime.
Another fix is letting the car roll a little(forward or reverse, doesn't matter) while trying to put it into gear.

andy, youre thinking of the wrong thing....when youre stopped and the gears arent lined up right then you can do what you said...
this problem is that the shifter wont even attempt to enter reverse...its feels exactly like the 5th gear reverse lockout is on....

i still havent figured it out....maybe pirate knows...</TD></TR></TABLE>
I know why, and did a writeup back in the day of superhonda.com.. like 2000 or somthing..
the selectory ring for 5th/reverse gets abused on the 5th gear side and it creates burrs that won't allow the selector to now slide into reverse. 1 bad 5th gear scratch can do it.. Just pulling hard on the shifter will bend the shift forks. You can fix it by just replacing the 5th/reverse selector and syncros for 5th gear..

Actually, this worked for reverse being completely locked out too. I read about it over 3 years ago. That's when I decided to try it on my car. It worked too.
The guy who posted about it (It was either on Honda-Acura or Superhonda) had it happen to his 5th gen. He took his car to Honda and they couldn't figure it out. They replaced his tranny. A few months later it happened again. Then he decided to try the clutch thing. It worked. He said he had to use the clutch to get it into gear, then it got stuck in reverse. The clutch fix worked to get it out and ever since then it worked.
It's worth a shot.

^ can you confirm what you said before.......slaming it into gear doesent sound too good, not trying to break the shift forks.....I tried as hard as i good to manually getting it into get at a stop and someone pressing on the clutch.....nothin
give me a step by step, and maybe we can sticky this....

That is correct. Mine failed like this in warranty, so Honda gave me a new transmission.
