Default Damage Done?

Quick question...

If the timing belt jumps teeth on the gears due to a loose tensioner, should I be worried? I'm guessing based on the horrible noise that I drove the car about 2 miles after it jumped and did not hit vtec. The car did eventually die and would not start back up. It never Idle surged, or threw a CEL.

Any opinions on what I should expect?

TIA

how many teeth did it jump? hope that it wasnt enough for your valves to have territorial problems with your pistons

About 3 or 4 teeth.

I guess we'll know today if the two became close friends.

i have seen people get lucky"like winning the dam lottery"...but i would say
you bent some valves.replace the timing belt first, then fire her up.if she sounds like she did before"ther timing belt broke".....everything is good.if not well all
can say is operating time.

harv

question.did the tenioner give or the belt stretch

I would guess the tensioner gave. The has about 4k miles on it, and the cams are stock. I guess the belt coulda stretched though. It still seems fairly tight though.

I'd actually suggest trying a leakdown/compression tests first. Set the belt right, then re-adjust the tensioner (and push it a bit tighter still, just in case), then test. If it's fine, just replace the belt with a high-quality part. Otherwise, find a good head rebuilder around your area (or do the valves yourself).

Everything ended up being fine. The Tensioner hole had to be re-tapped b/c the area had become stripped. The valves and everything were okay.

Car tested 210 on three cylinders and 203 on the other.
