the reason for the grinds is most likely the short shifter. the synchro's may already be on the way out, and the short shifter is most likely just further worsening (is that even a word?) the problem. the synchro's cant keep up with the shortened throws from the new shifter, hence the grinding.

i'd ditch it ASAP

I have a 99Dx coupe as well as my CRX...funny thing is that for being 10 years older, the CRX shifts better than the DX. It crunches sometimes into 2nd and occasionally in 4th...I don't even shift it or drive it hard, and it has just under 40K on the clock. I just don't think they make them like they used to.

well honestly how much are you actually getting from the short shifter? All i hear is problems, mostly because ppl add mods onto old and used parts and expect the older parts to work like new. Id say invest into something else until u know everything else can stand the new items.

i have a dc sports short shifter and it gets a big . it grinds 2nd and 3rd lots. i actually have to shift slower so it won't grind!

this is on my teg, though. i am ditching that thing asap.

in my civic we have the stock shifter and that thing is so smooth, non-grinding. i love it and its a 13 year old car!

First of all a short shifter doesn't ruin your tranny's synchros, it's the driver that ruins it. It just means your shifting faster then you are disengaging the clutch.

Can't keep up?????? What the hell are you talking about?

Shorten travel is on the cabin side. The tranny should get the same amount of travel for each shift.

As for the grinding, maybe you're shifting too fast or too slow (not fast or as slow as your left foot).

lolz.....just a little correction JDMb16a..... trinity is a young lady. from GA.

base on the short shifter from pepboys...i dont see anything wrong with mines when i do hard driving from 1st to 2nd....2nd to 3rd....3rd to 4th for a year.

you might of tighten the bolt to tight to where you grind when shifting.. try loosening the bolt.

I bought the cheap Autozone Spectre Short shifter about 2 weeks ago, it works great, huge difference, till last week when my tranny started leaking and now it grinds and I need a new tranny, lol. I think all I need is a seal, but it gives me a reason to buy an SI tranny. So I am going to buy one this week, Monday actually, its great. I dont know if I should use the Short shifter on my SI though, I love it and all but....

Actually a good short shifter (not a pep boys APC special) doesn't make any gear grind. i have a OBX short shifter w/neuspeed bearings and it works great. the reason certain gears grind is because of the driver or the syncros are shot. get a tranny re-build kit for like 150 bucks and your tranny will run like new.

i sometimes have a few grinds with my short shifter but a friend told me neuspeed sells a bushing that is supposed to help grinding.

my teg does this alot. usually what i do is i let the clutch back out (with the car in neutral), then re-engage the clutch and try selecting reverse. it usually works the second time.

also, i think this occurs on most cars and isn't really a problem...

reason for reverse not going in is becasue there is no syncro in reverse. fararris and lambo's have them most cars dont. try reving your motor to match speeds while shitfing in reverse. also the double clutch will work as well

another easy thing to do when going into reverse is to put it into 2nd then reverse. it will not grind at all. double clutch it or shift into a different gear (4th) , then shift into 3rd and it shouldn't grind.
