Default Did the bearing failure test

So my rear passenger side wheel is making some weird noises when I drive, even weirder when backing up. Sometimes when I back up a little bit it'll make a very odd noise, the closest thing I can think of is: remember that cheap toy that was like a tube and when you flipped it over it made a weird noise? its like that, and loud. When driving forward it makes an odd metallic whirling type noise.

I figured it was the bearing so I did the "shake the wheel" test to see if there's any play but there's none. Does a messed up bearing always fail the "shake the wheel" test?

I don't think its the brake but I suppose it could be.
Any help would be great!

Have you checked if there's any stone or road debris lodged between the rotor and weathershield or calipers ? worth removing wheel and giving it a good check to rule that out, usually if a bearings on it's way out you can feel play by gripping the tyre and twisting left and right or top and bottom while it's jacked up.

yeah i checked for any debris and didn't see any, the brake disc seemed to be in good condition as well.

just called around and of course no one stocks the rear hub bearing.

The rear wheel bearing comes as a new complete wheel hub assembly, if your replacing then you have to get a complete unit I'm afraid. Had one go on mine and it gave a droning noise which increased with speed.

yeah no one has the hub. this sound is weird as hell and its making me upset. I'm just gonna order a new bearing and brake pads and see if that fixes it. there's not much on a rear wheel.

it's a bit of a pita, but what you could do to be absolutely sure is pull off the rear caliper and rotor, and pull the hub...if the inner race of the bearing is stuck on the spindle, that's the best indication...

but yeah, i used to get the whirring sound too....sounds like you're being followed by a helicopter

i'm going to replace the pads/rotor and see if that does anything, it'll also let me get a closer look.

the sound its making, i don't think its a normal whirring sound, it sounds like long really thin metal rods bouncing around in a coffee can thats rolled across the floor. its weird.
