Coilover installation - difficult?
Hey, just wondering, those of you have replaced the your stock springs with coilover springs YOURSELF, how difficult was it? Any major problems, things to look out for, tools i might need to get, etc? Weekend job, or should i just say fug it and send it to a mechanic?
Also, i have the coilover springs, but they didn't come with any directions. It came with all these rubber o-rings, can anyone tell me where they're supposed to go? There are two metal ones, and then i have three sets of different sized o-rings.
Thanks,
Puhlode

its easy... as long as the bolts on the lower control arm to shock are not rusted or stuck in the bushings or stuck in place.... this is a common problem in the northern states. you need--->
wrenches or a socket set.
breaker bar/ratchet extension ( I use an 18" long pipe on top of the 10" ratchet)
spring compressor (if you are removing oem springs, you NEED this and can usually rent them for free).
lift/jack/jackstands.
on my GSR sedan it took me two days because **** was rusted, stuck, breaking and not cooperating.
on my civic hatch I was finished in less than 3 hours for my Konis and GC's

oh yeah, take off the dust cover boot on the top of the shock and you may need an allen wrench/key to remove the nut on top of the shock... I cant remember if that is for aftermarket only or if it is for all shocks...

Good luck
I tried mine a couple weeks ago... the fronts went fine, took about an hour (with no power tools) and two buddies. The back we had trouble because of course the bolts where rusted in good, we broke both of the strut mounts on the LCA so we had to drill them out. I'm still in the process of doing this
Hopefully everything goes smooth for you!! good luck

You put the o rings between the shock and the coilover sleeve so that there is no movement. you will not need all of them. just the ones that fit. they should of sent you different sizes.
Good luck

i used electrical tape instead of the rubber rings to fill the gap between the shock body and the coil sleeve. fill the gaps at the edges of the sleeves. also, depending on how low your ride will be, remember to remove the dust covers in the front or they will mess up the threads and/or ruin ride comfort. my $.02

Yeah those bolts are a pain in the *** when they rust. Do you just drill a new hole then buy self tapping screws or what? Just wondering how you guys did it when you got the bolts stuck on that lower control arm. The guy where I was getting them installed at said it would cost like $130.....I thought that was a little steep so I took matters in to my own hands.
It is easy to install but hard to do the exactly proper height adjustment. When you adjust the height of one coilover, it will affect the height of the other 3....
