Best cams for turbo??
So I'm building my gsr head and I want some aggressive turbo cams, but dont know what brand I should go for. This is just a weekend fun car that is taken out strickly for some *** kicking. If you have any ideas, please list brand so I can do some research.
Also, what tranny would be best for a built GSR turbo motor and why? What characteristics make a tranny good for turbo applications? Thanks for the help--Dave

u can make alot of power just from type r cams, 550 plus, type r tranny is best if u got a big turbo you'll rev faster and spool the turbo faster.
I always heard that type r cams and tranny work best for all motor applications and not for turbo applications. I heard gsr cams would work best for turbo, but I don't want them to remain stock. Like I said, I wouldnt mind something super aggresive since this is only going to be a weekend warrior.
Any other suggestions or opinions?

Kepp your stock GSR cams and stock GSR tranny (Quaife LSD if you want to spend the money). Plenty of cars have made tons of power on GSR cams. I would rather turn the boost up a few pounds, than spend a bunch of money on cams to get some extra power.

...The best oem cams for boost are the CTR or 01 ITR(which is the same thing)
best tranny setup for a boosted GSR is 99-00 B16 with LS fith gear and Quiaffe.

Has anyone ever run the Crower stage2 turbo cams. If you look at the specs they are more aggressive that the type r cams, except with less overlap. Im not trying to hijack this thread. but all i see are people saying dont spend the extra money. what i think he is looking for is "what will make the most power" not "im on a budjet what cam do i use?"
Anyone ever done a heads up comparison between cams ex:aftermarket cams (crower,skunk2,etc) or ITR cams, gsr, CTR or combinations of the 4?

Your right, he didn't say cheapest. Unless you have say, $30k to spend, why not use stock GSR cams? Turbo cams are about $700, thats money that could be spent elsewhere in/on the motor. Plenty of boost can be had on those cams.

glad you said that cos i was gonna ask the same question, im boosting my itr motor and am running the itr tranny

this is a before and after dyno graph of just a simple camshaft change - same timing, same boost, same targeted lambda

we are still in the process of playing with the cam gears settings a bit to see if we can pick up anymore from just tinkering with parts that we already have on the car
engine setup:
85mm cp pistons
b18c1 block, golden eagle sleeves
carrillo rods
ed's racing p&p b16 head with supertech valves, valve springs and retainers
golden eagle intake manifold
gt4067 turbo
motec m4 ems
advertised specs
skunk2 turbo intake - 9.77mm lift, duration 230 at 1 mm
skunk2 turbo exhaust - 8.89 lift, duration 225 at 1mm
jun type 2 intake - 12.0mm lift, duration 266.6 at 1mm
skunk2 stage 1 exhaust - 10.9mm lift, duration 249 at 1mm
dyno 003 - skunk2 turbo camshafts
dyno 007 - jun type 2 intake, skunk2 stage 1 exhaust

I've heard that the lobes on FI cams are different, allowing the cylinder pressure out which lessens the chance for detonation, and motors are much safer with them....any truth to that? I'm looking at a 500-600 hp build right now, 25+ psi... I have been running my stock gsr cams until now in my stock sleeve 16 psi 370 hp b18c1, but I dunno if I should swtich or not
what are the odds of 2 of the same threads side-by-side?!?!!? Oh wait..... this is another cam thread
