Foo to Race Mazda Protege in WC.
... I wanted to make sure I kept with my hatchback heritage, so we're going to be running the first Protégé5," said Foo.
Sweet! The ES already looks awesome in WC trim. I can't wait to see what they will do to the 5, which IMHO is much cooler looking to start with.

whaaaaaaaatttt?!?!?!?!?!?
oh well...probably better backing from the Mazda than with Honda.
One time on his site, he was prepping a EBP 2000 Civic Si. Then another time, someone on here thought he may race a GS-R. oh well....
good luck prospec!!!

What? you mean you mean Honda does anything to back racers?
They need to take lessons from Mazda. I guess that would go against the "green" image they're so caught up in.

Anybody have any details on the powerplant in the P5? I know the JDM 2.0L drops right in, though it may not be needed if they can build the USDM motor.
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing the Speed WC this season.

I'm sure Roger Foo is much happier that he has Circuit City on board to pay his racing bills more than anything else.
Mazda does help out all its competitors running the Protege, but you still need quite a BIT more "resources" (aka $$$) that you need to come up with to afford to run the series. And this is where Circuit City comes in play for "our man" Foo. It's awesome to start seeing a big name like this get directly involved in this series. This shows how far the WC has come and I have a feeling it will continue to grow even more, and hopefully some day it will get to the point where the majority of competitors/teams can actually say they broke even with their expenses or maybe even made some money in running this "Pro" series. Unlike Nascar, WC drivers are far from having their own private jets bought with money earned in running the series. And not to bash more on nascar, but in my eyes at least, the top WC finishers are BETTER drivers than 75% of the nascar boys with all their private jets and millions in cash.
I really hope Roger is successful in his effort because that will show the other big name business out there the potential that lies in the World Challenge and that getting directly involved is a GOOD idea.
In response to who asked about the poweplant. He is probably running the same Sunbelt built 2.0L "race" motor that the other Protege drivers are using. The engine is actually quite far from a normal Protege motor, since with it's 13:1 compression ratio and aggressive cams among many other things, the WC specs http://www.speedvisionwc.com/competi...rotege-2.0.pdf say it should be making around 215 hp. But somehow I do have this strange feeling that Sunbelt has a few more tricks that they do to extract just a little more power than that.

Hello All!
Hey sorry for trying to throw everyone off in the earlier stages, but, you know how it is! Don't count your chickens before they hatch! We were working the deals right up to the end and nothing is done til the deal is done.
Thanks for sticking by me even going to another manufacturer. I will still be a Honda fan, albeit in a different capacity. I still drive a 2000 Civic DX hatchback on the street and it will be powered by Rothenbueler.
I have a feeling this is going to be a great season of racing in a Mazda. I hope to make a great show and not let you guys down.

Hey Roger, good luck this year. It must be nice having someone foot the bill (or most of it) for a change! Thanks for being so friendly at VIR, and giving Dave those clamps. Couldn't have hung up the new header/exhaust without ya!

Hrm - Sam threw me for a ride then at VIR
He told me you guys were working on a 6th gen hatchback with a B16A motor in it. DOH!
Thanks again for setting aside some time to talk with the little guys Roger. Good luck this season

Actually, Sam did not go loopy on you! They, Lockwood Raceworks are indeed in the final stages of completion of their EK hatch. You just maybe, presumed I would be the driver for them or something to that effect because I had shown up at VIR with them. We did discuss that at one point! but, nahh! I have to see what the Mazda can do. The yellow car does happen to be a donor of various items to their new ride.
The Mazda teams made great strides last season and I intend to help further developments on the Protege. I hope I can at least! Well, OK , maybe I'll just have fun and do the best I can. I know the guys on our team are very talented and it then will be up to me to place the car where needed - Podium! hahaha kidding. It really is going to be huge fun this season.
Wish us luck!
Ohh! forgot to ask! Does anyone have any pictures from VIR that you can email me? I would like to save some jpegs of old yeller for sentimental value. boohoo Thanks

Its great to see pro drivers like you get intouch with the grassroots and not act like other guys who put themselves on a pedestle. Just remember Roger, when ur at Mosport and u see a huge GO ROGER FOO sign, u know its a guy from Honda-Tech lol
good luck this season,
Aly
good luck this season,

I'm gonna assume so since he's already posted in it twice..
As long as you don't turn up driving a Mustang somewhere I think everyone will be behind you...

I know you wouldn't mind if I arrived at a race driving a Mustang in GT class now - would you?
I'm a **** - I'll drive anything with at least two wheels on it! I didn't just type that -did I? Maybe I shouldn't say, or type what I'm thinking.
Cheers!

Good luck with the Mazda. I guess it's poetic that you won laguna, I mean, mazda raceway. Zoom, zoom.
So, how low will you be sitting in the new car? In the civic, you looked to be sitting at the same height as Colin McRae's (sp?) navigator.
You have a shop in Rancho Cordova?
