Default AM Radio noise when Directionals are on

Hello All;

I am new to the forum, new to Honda. I did a search on this topic but did not find the same scenerio. Curious to get some feed back.

I bought a used 2002 Accord I4 with 50k miles on it. I have put 4 thousand on it already. It's a pretty fun little car. I mainly bought if for my daughter who will be learning to drive in the next six months. Brought it into the dealer for the first time for a few issues:Throttle sticking, Clock bulb, remote unlock, and noise in AM radio when directionals are on.

Throttle body cleaning and bulb replacment $105.00 wow alittle steep. I've found that this is a common issue and is required maintence but are there any detailed steps as to what needs to be removed/cleaned? I'm not to brave without instructions.

This car does not have a remote unlock feature, to get one from the dealer installed would be $495.00 - Guess we won't be doing that!

So to my question. I listen to AM radio alot (Hey I'm her dad remember!)
I noticed that when sitting at a light and I have either the right or left directional on I get some static on the radio that correspondes to the clicking of the directional.

The dealer took a look at it and compared it to another Accord of the same age and that car does it too, leaving the dealer to believe it is an inherent problem. There are no TSB's on it so there is no documentated issue.

The dealer said they could do some grounding testing that would take 2-3 hours with no promise of the problem being fixed.

Just curious if a certified Master mechanic have come accross this issue and a solution.

thanks much

Your signature says 2002 LE. Do you mean LX, or SE? (there was no LE)

If you have an LX, you could add keyless entry for ~ $158 plus shipping:

though you would be doing the installation yourself. It's not hard (I did it on my '99 LX), just a lot of plugging stuff in, unplugging others, replacing others, etc, no splicing or cutting etc.

If you mean SE then it came with factory remote door unlock in which case you just need to pick up a key fob off of ebay and program it (easy).

As for the radio, I dunno. I guess consider replacing it with an aftermarket radio, you can pick up a nice Alpine that plays MP3s for ~ $250.

Heat;
Yes I meant LX, I'll look into the keyless entry.

As far as a radio replacement, I can go that route, probably will to get he siri or xm
but was curious if there was a known fix.

You might honestly try posting something in the audio section. It sounds like a grounding/electrical problem. On the other hand I know AM is a lot lower power/frequency (that's why the signal goes so far) so it may just be something you have to live with. Satellite radio is nice (just went on a trip with a friend that had one) but keep in mind you have to subscribe to it ($10 a month in his case). By the time you buy the unit and pay for lets say 10 years of service if you keep the car that long you might as well buy an aftermarket cd player. Don't know the details but most high line cd players support sat. radio, I don't know if that means audio in or you simply run an antenna to it.
