Glasspacks on my CRX. No Raspiness
Ok so my stock 1 1/4" exhaust finally crapped out on me. I was considering upgrading to either the Megan Racing, or KTeller for an exhaust system.
My friend who owns a 472 cid Big Block Caddy swears by his glasspacks. Looking at the straight through design of a glasspack I didn't see how that could quiet down my car.
Since it was only $20 I figured why not. We attached it straight to the header to see how it would sound, and surprisingly it was alot quieter then I expected. We welded everything up took it out for a drive its not raspy at all.
It's a little bit louder then stock, but not more then most "performance" exhausts. If I had to compare it to another exhaust I would say between 2k-3.5k rpm on acceleration and deceleration it sounds just like a Subaru Burble. I don't have to worry about much restriction. The exhaust comes straight off the header thru the cherry bomb and side exit.
Well They get my
Tell me what you guys think.

Did a quick search and a lot of other people have good things to say about glass pack mufflers too.

are you going to run any type of tubing? i think this would affect the sound. i would imagine mine sounds the same as yours but i have a del-slow manifold and cat with no tubing. it doesnt sound bad, but with the tubing i think it would be raspy
Glass packs work fine.
I am going to use one in my exhaust setup.
I'm going to run a glass pack as a resonator right after the cat, and then I'm going to run a nice big flowmaster in the back as well.
Question about Kteller since you said you are considering buying a kit from there... what is the overall cost like? I looked into the kits and it looks like they are not that economical. Especially when you consider that you still have to buy a resonator and a muffler, and, you still have to get somewhere to install and weld it all up for you.
It just seems like the overall cost would add up really quickly and may end up being even more expensive than a catback.

Yes. Later today were just going to weld on a 45 degree elbow on the end of the glasspack, and have it exit in front of the right rear or right left tire. Right now it ends right where the exhaust hangers are by the shift linkage.
The whole idea with KTeller is that you get to design it. You pick the muffler resonator etc. The DIY kit is $185 for Mild steel and I think it was $215 for stainless steel, and you have to weld the brackets and piping which works out good if you have a welder.
I was originally going to use the glasspack as a resonator and a cheap pep boys canister for the rest of the exhaust but it wasn't necessary. You would probably be best off buying a bolt on kit that includes everything for the most cost effectiveness. IMO

you should trash the flowmaster...
i have the super 40 series drag/street. oval canister 2.5" inlet and 2.5" center outlet. the piping is mandrel bent and tig welded by me, i also have a highflow cat along with a 5x10" resonator.
sounds really really quite when im not modulating the pedal. everything else is crap! by far the worst muffler ever...the design is outdated using "chambers" to trap noise. well all you hear is the resonance from bouncing off all the walls and corners.
i want to kill it.

Very accurate description. I had a flowmaster on my Jetta GLi 16v 2 1/4 exhaust stock cat. It popped, resonated, farted, and made every ungodly noise you would never want to hear from an exhaust. Flowmasters don't seem to mix with 4 cylinders.

What would you recommend?
Aren't there different designs of Flowmater mufflers?
I just want one that is going to keep the noise down while allowing decent flow.

I had a Greddy cat-back on my 99 Si that I thought was the best sounding exhaust. If I remember correctly I think that it was an EVO or something like that. It wasn't loud at all and it didn't make that damn coffee can sound that most exhausts make. Plus it sounded really nice when I turboed the car!!!

90 civic with 2" pipe after factory resinator.Replaced factory muff with can resinator off 1998 buick century.I love it and it performs great.Enoguh to give me some low end torgue and not restrictve enough at mid to high rpm's
with the number of cheap, high quality custom made exhausts for our car I really don't see the point of the DIY exhaust. Why redesign something that's been done already?
I bought an off the shelf exhaust, never had any issues with noise, rust, or leaks.

A nice catback is going to run at least $400+....
I am going to piece my own together for about $250 with all quality components. I had a $600 blingin cat back on my last car and IMO it wasn't worth it when I probably could have built my own for half the price and had it perform just as well.
