Default Great I love gear grinding :(

I now experience the notorious third gear grind. I just bought me a jdm mugen twin-loop and put in an order for the RMF narrow header, so my pockets are hurting all ready. I haven't slapped the catback on yet, waiting for the header to come in! I searched and found out that the gm syncromesh is a temp. fix. Is there any other advise that needs to be given?

his 3rd grinded too everytime but the test is u downshift from 4th to 3rd.. if it doesnt grind downshifting from 4th then its your slider... if its the synchro, then it will grind equally down and up shifting...</TD></TR></TABLE>

And this is what I read in another thread, is this true. Going have to test this out.

gearspeed carbon synrco set second through fifth gear set its like $260-$270 i hear great stuff about them

call your local transmission shop and ask how much to install a set of syncros

really once it grinds when goin in almost all the time, the suncromesh is only goin to prolong the inevitable

might as well do it now and not suffer the grinding gears

i put a tranny in my car that had a 3rd gear grind. used the GM syncromech with friction modifier(make sure you get it with the friction modifier, because they have it without friction modifier also) and i raced on it all year and not one grind. i recommend this if your looking for a temporary fix until you get the funds to fix it correctly.

if its a slight grind syncromesh will fix it but eventually the syncros will wear out.

i suggest reading up on why syncromesh works the way you think, and realize youre just shooting yourself in the foot.

If you are a loyal customer to Honda, and they want to keep you there. They will fix it for almost nothing

Thanks, 90blackcrx, you always have good info and good links

So its not the syncros like everyone says?? or is a blocking ring a syncro?

A blocking ring is a syncro

And syncro is just a band air for the problem.

well obviously is something is grinding, it's bad..
and if it doesn't grind..hey great, a band aid to the problem is better than letting it bleed.
i was low on tranny fluid since whoever changed it last didn't tighten the bolt enough..i had a high rpm third gear grind..
i like gm syncromesh friction modified because not only did it take away my friends third gear grind on his type r, it doesn't sheer down to a lower/thinner weight nearly as fast as honda MTF does.

I change it according to the Honda manual. And until I see proof, I'm not going to believe anything.
