Default Skunk2 intake manifold - worth it?

Hey,

got a 93 civic hatch, d16z6, 2.5" exhaust, high flow magnaflow cat, pacesetter headers, 2.75" CAI with K&N, bosch single plat spark plugs. Question: is it worth it to get skunk2 intake manifold, throttle body and spacers, or is it a waste of cash?

the intake manifolds are good for most applications, they should increase power on most engines. Throttle bodies are a good idea too, and it seems like you have the rest of your breather system taken care of.

I don't know what kaoss_11 is talking about, but I do know that if the spacer you are talking about is like the hondata one here:
than it is definitely a good idea, and well worth the 60-80 bucks. There is no reason to get the throttle body spacer, unless you refuse to do a coolant bypass, but to each his own.

My experiences with the Hondata spacer: Before it if the engine was warm you could barely hold your hand on the intake manifold. With it installed the intake manifold is actually colder than the walls of the engine bay. I am even going to get plastic washers for the bolts so there is no metal-metal contact between my head and inatke manifold.

The power increase is very noticable too, when you are just getting going on a crisp day and your car is a little peppier than other times, it'll feel like that all the time.

But once the intake mani is cold, and you do a coolant bypass, there is no reason to get the throttle body spaced from the already cold IM.

hope that helps.

ok, sorry for the stupidity but I am really new to all this modification stuff. I used to own a Ford Contour, and mods were very limited. Now that I bought the civic, I'm loving how much I can do with it, but it seems quite overwhealming.

Just to get some more information off of you, you say the intake manifold, intake manifold spacers and throttle body is a good idea, so I was learning towards that. However, I do not understand what you mean by a coolant bypass, could you explain this in more detail.

Also, I buy this intake mani and the spacers, do I need an intake mani gasket as well?

I appreciate the help guys

Matt

Sorry for my stupidity guys, but I still don't know what a coolant bypass. Do I have to by-pass some coolant lines? Do I move there the coolant lines are transferred through the engine? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

ARG!!!! It hurts to read these posts.. its been like ten posts and no one answered his question on whats a coolant bypass. From what i remember its a really cheap mod that sometimes gains power, its where you reroute your coolant lines far away from your throttle body and intake manifold, only letting it take in cool air.

actually, it's rerouting the coolant that goes through the tb so that it doesn't go directly through the tb.

don't do this if you live where it gets cold because it can cause your tb to freeze up. all you really get by this is not heating up your tb as much to help keep the tb from heating up the incoming air. the coolant still goes through the intake manifold.

the only effort that should be put into a D series is pulling it out.

I was wondering if an OBX intake manifold was worth buying? For a d series.
