Just got my insurance quote for the S2000 I'm about to buy...
$422 a month for a 2003.
I'm 19, and thats on my parents insurance, ridiculous.
My 94 GSR is $220 a month.
That's gonna put me in the hole.
Allstate by the way.
Its a 2003. 46k miles, has one ding in the drivers side door. no chipped paint on the ding. It's throwing a CEL too, I drove it and it was fine, on the way back it was fine, when parking it, it had a rough idle then shut off. Before I buy it, its supposed to be getting fixed at Honda. $17500.

That sucks. But that's what you get for being 19. I had an 84 Nissan Sentra auto when I was your age.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'm still getting it. I gotta pay for it so it sucks but at least I'm getting what I want.
4 tickets + accident is the reasoning, I was a dumb *** when I first got my license.

I don't want to sound like your father, but save your money, bro. Put that towards your college tuition, real estate, savings bonds, or even stocks. I'd never pay over $5000 per year for insurance.
That's what I'm saying, bro. Go and get your own house and start building up some equity. If I still lived at home, I could go out and buy a 360 Modena.
But it's your money, so do what you want.

I find this a little... hard to believe. I mean, I'm not trying to be an *** or anything... But how does one get a job as an engineer, at NASA nevertheless, without a college degree? Also, where I work (which is government funded), engineers make $100k+/year to start... If you're making that much money, I don't see why you would live at home, or even why you would settle for a S2000...

I agree.
Perhaps a sanitary engineer?

Its all in who you know, my father is 2nd on the ladder. I work for a contractor that is hired by the Government. We are facilities operations and maintenance division. We don't build space craft, we make sure the clean rooms get the proper air flow they need, the proper filtration, we make sure all 100 buildings (Goddard Space Flight Center) are up and running. We control the power, the HVAC, the plumbing for each building. A year in trade school and the proper shoe in the door will get you a job.
My company is also at ATF and other government ran facilities in the surrounding area (DC).
Getting the job isn't extremely hard. Proper licensing, 3rd's class engineering, CFC, HVAC journeyman etc... is the proper qualification, Then...knowing someone to get you in.
So for all those kids taking that college route, I chose this route. trade school. and jumping right into the work...

Wow...I would have to say the car isn't worth $440mo for just insurance.
I drive an 03 myself, im 24, on parents insurance policy...full coverage, one ticket on record(broken speedometer).
$80 month allstate

When you said "engineer", a slightly different thought came to mind.
But,
for explaining, it always helps to know someone.

I got a quote of 367 a month for a 2001. 383 a month for a 2002, and I finally found a GREAT deal on a 2003 and its 422. sucks ***.
That's high as hell. But you did the crime, you pay the... time? LOL.. You'll be hit hard with insurance prices for a while with 4+1 and even after you turn 21 probably.
im 20 and i pay 450 a month full coverage but ima change it for liability, with 1 accident, 01 s2k with 22k i got it for $13,000 silverstone..........and also it depends on where u live cuz every state have different policies
I agree. But do some more research becasue if you find the right company the price can be dramaticly diff, on my ITR i was quoted for 300+ with 2 ticket both 20+ over and im only 20. then i got a quote from geico that put me down to 170 mo. crazy.
Two words:
Valentine One
I couldn't fathom paying that for insurance, let alone the car payment.
Good luck anyhow!

pretty stupid. s2k parts aren't cheap so more than likely you would be f*d in case of an accident thats your fault
i've seen some repairs where you look at the s2k and think its not too bad. just a few parts and good as new...bill was over 10k each time

They totaled my first car at $29k, but I still managed to sell about $8k worth of parts off the car. Full coverage would let you do that, depending on how much you want to commit.
