Default 2000 ITR IDLE?

I have a 2000 ITR and i was accelerating quickly, I went a little past 8000rpms. Missed 3rd gear. Now when it is idiling it idle's down to almost dying. And there is a ticking sound coming fromt the engine bay. Slow when at idle and then as you slowly accel it speeds up. I did get on it after that, and it still pulls hard as it ever did. Hopefully it's nothing serious! YOUR assistance is greatly appreciated! Thankyou in advance!

Did you pull the infamous money shift? You may want to perform a compression test and leak down test. These can guide you as to what to do next. Good luck on it, it can get rather expensive.

Maybe a valve adjustment is needed?

Valve adjustment isn't going to fix bent valves from an over-rev.

How would a retainer get bent?

Sounds like bent valves.

When you say you missed third gear and saw approx. 8300 RPM... what exactly happened? You intended to upshift into 3rd gear, but what gear did you end up in? Or did your hand slip and you floored the gas in neutral? (which shouldn't result in a damaged valvetrain)

The redline is 8400 RPM, fuel cut (rev limiter) is 8600 RPM, and the tachometer tends to read a little high at those revs, so 8600 RPM looks more like 9000 on the tach.

Anyway, an indicated 8300RPM on an ITR engine is within its stock powerband.

It depends on how extensive the damage is. It's possible to bend only some valves, or all the exhaust valves, or all 16 valves, and even drop a valve and damage a piston.

You're looking at several hundred at least if you have bent valves.

Do an archived search for "bent valves" and read up. There's a couple of threads from folks with the symptoms who say they didn't overrev.

Call the Acura dealer and order a set of valves, you're going to need them...
