I was looking to purchase a 4th gen prelude and do an H22 swap. I have a few questions off the bat.
Will I be able to swap the H22A type S engine, and if so, would I need the transmission as well from this engine? The OBDI ad OBDII thing seems to be a proble, so wouldi just change that as well?
Also what can I expect from performance? How will the car accelerate? My friend told me he raced a Prelude (4th gen) with an H22 in it with bolt ons and cams, and claimed to have beat him by about a car and a half in his mostly stock Civic Si. I found that hard to believe. Wouldn't a 4th gen with an H22 run at least mid to high 14's?
Thank you for any help,I've been searching the forums but I couldn't find anything that I could use.

http://www.hmotorsonline.com is a great place to purchase engines from. If you have a 96 you'll have to change from obd2-1. If you have a 92-95 you don't have to change anything if you get an obd1 engine. Stock H22 4th gens can cut high 14's so with a type S and minor bolt-ons I don't see why you couldn't run 14.5-14.8's.

Is a Type S swap legal in Cali, because of obd1 car obd2 motor, right.
Or do you have to convert the car to obd2 to? I know how to dell with the REF just want to know if i have to go to him.

stock? a type s h22 might, but a usdm one won't
a civic si could definitely beat an h22 prelude, maybe not by a car and a half, but it depends on the driver

is your car stock? if you swap an h22 into a 4th gen, the only advantage that would have over a 5th gen is maybe 100 lbs... it shouldnt be much faster. most of the information you need can be found by doing a search
i have a jdm h22 in my 4th gen, bone stock i would take a si with stage 1 cams camgears I/H/E i can take a h23 hatch ls hatch and the newer preludes i will just walk them.

A CIvic SI beat an h22 prelude.......Is the h22 missing like every gear?...H22 Prelude > Civic SI

i agree, but its pretty close. if the prelude driver sucked at shifting, an si could easily beat one...or so i've been told

So an H22A JDM Type S H22 will fit into a 4th gen? I won't need a tranny too, will I?
Also as for mods, I am going with JUN cams and I will be investing a lot in tuning. I want one sick All motor daily driver. ^^ Thanks for the help guys. How much do you think that swap will run me?

this thread is so full of misinformation it is pissing me off
1) any H series tranny will fit any h series block.
2) civic Sis look stupid next to h22 preludes....you will kill them...you will also kill gsrs....if you get a few bolt ons...you will beat type rs
3)if youre gonna be doing cams and stuff like that, why dont you build a motor from the ground up instead of buying a swap....
get a 4th gen prelude
a jdm 4th gen m2b4 lsd transmission
find a usdm h23 block (the prelude you buy might have one)
get some arp studs for the h23
get the h23 bottom end balanced
find a h22 head, get it ported and put in the jun cams
find a stock intake manifold and have your head porter do some work on it
and an rmf or smsp header
then get a hondata s200 or s300 and tune that bi0ch
that will be daily driveable and sick....you will run low low 13s if you build it all right....

sorry...
to the op: why don't you just build up the 5th gen you have? since it already has an h22

Mgags what are the benefits to using the H23 bottom end with the H22 head? Why not just swap the JDM Type S motor and already have the extra 20 horse?
Also are you sure on the low 13's? This is with a full interior, correct?

i havent hit the strip yet with my recent changes...i will let everyone know when i do
the h23 bottom end will give you a 95mm stroke vs the 90.7 on the h22....that will pick up about 10-15 horse...and it will keep helping more as you upgrade more...and with the longer stroke you get higher compression with stock pistons...
the reason the type s motor makes more hp are 1)higher compression (which you will get with this setup)
2)bigger camshafts, and since you will be changing to jun cams, this is also taken care of...
so dont waste the money on a type s motor, the only difference will end up being a red valve cover...
