Default Automatic trans fluid change 1998 V6

I did do a search and read back to 2003 on this subject BUT, have some questions. Have a 1998 Accord EX v6 with 117,000 on it. Dont know if fluid has ever been changed.
1. Some folk said dont do it if over like 100,000 because will screw up the trans.
What do you all think of this as Honda recommends change at 120,000?
2. Some say do a 3x flush, others drain and fill and drive around then drain and fill?
Others say just measure what drains off and refill with that amount and go?
3. How does one really do this? And what is the procedure for doing it?

Thanks for any help you can give.

id say just do the drain and fill and then drive around and drain and fill again, 98-02 accord v6's auto tranny are known to died but if yours lasted that long it must be good so just drain out the old fluid and fill inthe new one

Drain and fill 3 times works great for me. Mine didn't get done till 113,000 and still shifting great at 137,000. Just use the Honda z1 fluid and all will work out fine.

Thanks for the help you all. I believe i will try the drain/refill/drive technique and let ya know what happens. So basically, just unscrew the plug, measure the volume, fill, drive, and repeat--RIGHT

replace the at tranny fluid no longer than every 30k miles.......use honda atf-z1 //as for measure and refill i would not do that,,,,, the reason being what if it is low. ?? or someone overfilled it before ?? .......,,drain tranny and put 3 qts in .., if tranny sfits ok do not bother with doing it 3 times either unless the fluid that comes out is very very black and smells like it is burnt..

The more i read it seems like folk are doing the around 30,000 deal. Why in the hell would Honda say do it at ONLY 120,000!! Anyway, going on a road trip and just checked the fluid. Seems to be fine, that nice purple-like color with no burn-like smell. Hell, maybe i am one of the lucky few who actually got a good trans!!! Thanks for the help.

My honda is a 5-speed so I won't be replacing any automatic transmission fluid in it, but just changed the ATF in my '93 Volvo a couple of weeks ago.

Link for how to change the ATF in '70 to '98 rear wheel drive Volvos:
http://www.ipdusa.com/pdf/PI-241attrannyflush.pdf

Really easy.

Deserthonda, what do you recommend for fluid change in the manual transmission? There is a fluid to be replaced in it, right?

Honda as extended their services to be more compatative with other auto makers...stating to replace ATF at 100-120k is a total joke ,, and besides what do they care if tranny goes bad at 50-60k you are no longer under warranty .......
My advice ,, for as cheap as it is, replace ATF no later than 30k ...and use honda ATF-Z1 fluid ...
