Default Rods for Turbo D15

I am doing some research before I buy everything for my d-series build and I have decided to get vitara pistons (cost efficient) and I want to know if the D16 tuner toys rods will fit in a a D15 block? From what I know, they will, but before I spend the money on them, I want to be sure. Thanks.

nope no one makes d15 rods that are remotely affordable.

go spend $30 and buy a d16 block and crank

the only aftermarket rods for a D15 are very expensive, D16 rods will not work so yeah, it would just be easier to buy a D16 block. That's what I did.

...and most of the aftermarket rods for the d16 block require you to notch the block also. another cheap rod alternative is the LS rods in the d16 block.

Unless you have a hook up LS rods won't be that cheap to get machined. Eagle rods are only $300. Vitara pistons aren't that great either. I just don't see the point in spending the time and money on building your motor and having the rods/pistons be the weak points. In my opinion you would be better off getting eagle rods and some decent forged pistons (stronger and safer). You will probably only spend a few hundred more bucks getting forged rods/pistons anyways after everything is done. Don't half *** your engine build, just do it right the first time.

I have been looking into using some ls rods in a d-series block just for a daily driven turbo car. I already have a gsr-t that is a money pit, so I thought a inexpensive d-series pushing 250-275whp would be a fun dd.

What exactly do you need to do to use the ls rods? I have heard that you need to get bushings for the small diameter of the rods and that is about it. True or not?

The attraction to the d-series for most is that you can blow the engine and pick another one up for very cheap. As I said I already have a gsr-t build in the process so I want a boosted d for a fun dd. Vitaras and ls rods seem to b good options for what I am looking for. And my bro already has some shotpeened and magnafluxed ls rods that he will give me.

To the poster, dont mean to thread jack, but I have been looking to do the same thing you plan on doing. Maybe we can swap notes sometime.

you have to bush the rod end to accept a 19mm wrist pin and you have to shave teh sides of the crank end down to fit in the d16 journals. other than that they drop in.

and for those of you bitching about notching a block; GET OVER IT. go buy an air grinder w/ some dies for $20 and notch it; its not rocket science.

d-series.org or post in the market place. you should be able to find ANY d16 block with crank for cheap. If i were you i'd find a d16y7 or y8 block because they had provisions for a knock sensor (you may think thats unimportant now but if you go to tuning it'll help a lot) and the oil dipstick tube wont' be being blocked by a turbo manifold.
y7 or y7 w/ z6 head + strong internals = win

I wish i had gone with an obd2 block because i have a j&s safeguard and I can't find a decent place to put the knock sensor to get a clean reading. the one i was using is now being blocked by my compressor housing :/
